Looking to see if the new Windows Vista is totally it, and the "wanted" or to stick with XP for a "no change". I plan to build a computer and need to decide between the 2. People are telling me to go with XP, but those people dont know much about computers...

I do play City of Heroes (MMORPG).. Not even sure if it works on Vista.. but lets pretend it does..

Opinions matter.. but the reason why matters the most to me.

Thanks in advance, have a great day or night :D

I've used both as well... Vista is great and amazing looks but the nitty gritty details like drivers / updates / certain softwares and things like that are are huge mess to deal with. M$oft hasn't dealt with all the issues on vista just yet.

If you are a computer guru and like to work with things I would go with Vista...but if you are looking to get something that you can just open the box and start running fine then go with XP.

Having worked with and on computers for over 20 years, I have learned the following:

1. The new upgrades, despite substantial efforts from suppires, have unknown weaknesses in them.
2. New upgrades are not usually useable by all application software because they have not had sufficient time to complete all the needed steps to assure compatibility.
3. Fancy and pretty front end displays are not an indicator of stability and reliability any more than a coat of house paint will enable the electrical or plumbing to work better.
4. It takes several months of in the field use to get the bugs out.
5. Wait unitl SP 1 is ussued for Vista - until then stick w. XP unless you like to troubleshoot and fix a lot

in case you could spare the money, flow forward and purchase a working laptop or laptop with abode windows Vista. I upgraded from abode windows XP a year in the past while Vista first got here out and that i had multiple hardship with it. There are no great advancements over XP. i won't be able to answer approximately WOW. i think of it rather is in all possibility risk-free to apply Vista now.

Well i know alot about computers. Ive used both on this computer so go XP. Vista is missing alot of drivers. After I installed vista I went straight back to xp but unfortunately before I did some systems files got corrupted on vista and It would not let me install xp nor re-install vista or fix it. Finnally I tried one last time and I got the blue screen of death while trying to install xp. SO! definetlly go xp.

If it has an ATI graphic card its good with CoH/CoV, but before it will be compatible you have to go to the ATI website and download a driver (its free)

Step by step

At the home page at the top it will say ATI products and technology. when you hover the arrow over it, its a drop down menu. Select the "Windows Vista" link. Then look for another link that says "Drivers" when the page loads scroll down and click "32-bit eddition" And you should be able to run the game on its best graphics assuming you have the RAM and correct card

I would hold off on Vista until the first service pack comes out. For now, XP will run much better

I got a computer with windows vista....It does run faster....but there are things I don't like.....when searching for something, you don't get the options you had with XP. It actully searches every file. There are some extras...like the sidebars...where you can add gadgets.....but the gadgets can cause problems.
So it is diffrent than XP, but if you work with it...it's pretty cool.

Erm depends on what you want vista is good and to me more reliable i have ultimate.Tho it doesn't support all games/apps which is annoying i say stick with XP for a few months and wait for more support or maybe try Linux.

Agreed with GTB
also I would wait some time till vista take over the majority of hardware and software compatibility. let's say by the end of the year.
