Why are church people so rude when at restaurants?
I grew up going to a particular church. When I was older, I waited tables at a restaurant where all these church members came on sunday. Nobody recognized me, but I knew who they were. I don't understand it, but they were the rudest, nastiest, lowest tippers that came it. They treated me like dirt - one guy actually had the nerve to tell me god doesn't want me to work on sunday! And he was my old sunday school teacher. I WAS SHOCKED! My career in retaurants have proven that this was not an isolated case. Why are church people like this?!?

No, people - I just said it was not an isolated case. I have worked at 11 restaurants in my life and all over the country. It happens everywhere. And it's not just me that notices , it's everyone that works with me. Seriously, if you and your other church members are sitting at a restaurant on a sunday, chances are the servers are complaining about it. It's well known in the restaurant world

I had one person tell me so (please keep in mind that I do not hold this one person as representative of all, but it is a shocking example) "We are blessed and that makes us important."

Whenever I have nearly been run over by some joker in a car, the Jesus Fish is on it.

Whenever I get cut off in traffic or have a parking space stolen from me, there is some decal that professes their faith, especially with that annoying snide "Christians Aren't perfect...Just Forgiven" bumper sticker on the vehicle.

I guess as long as you confess and are contrite, you can treat people as you see fit.

My Husband and I are Christian and We ALWAYS LEAVE A TIP and we ALWAYS TELL THE WAITRESS/WAITER - GOD BLESS YOU!

I Will Admit - that I've seen this - While I was in school I worked at a Denney's Restaurant. I was very saddened by this - what I saw!

I hate to say it but - Perhaps they Realy don't have Jesus in thier Hearts. Evidence (partially) - I believe - is 'How you treat other's'

I Pray that this with you or Anyone continues! Now, I will tell you that my EX would not let me leave ANY tips - so I snuck it to the Waitresses or Waiters! When my EX caught me doing that - Well, that was NOT a happy memory! Not So NOW - Thank God!

Please have Peace - Accept the Grace of God!

Take Care and God Bless!

Last first - how can a guy who goes to a restaurant to eat blame the guy who is serving him for working on Sunday - he was the reason you were working....

As for the rest - as good and as extensive as your experience is, I still don't think it represents a universal truth - you still see only one small group of church goers - for a theist this would qualify as a

*drink*

question as it generalizes and implicates all church going people.....

Sorry that you had that experience.....

I am a church goer and am very nice to wait staff, but not that great a tipper since I have four kids and am stretched financially - but I do my best.....usually though we eat at home....

I don't know, but sad to say, some of them are. Indeed, a former pastor of mine said on more than one occasion that he has heard restaurant workers say they didn't want to work on Sundays because of the after-church crowd. Restaurant work is very labor-intensive anyway, especially on Sunday. The after-church crowd just adds to an already heavy load. (By the way, your ex-Sunday school teacher should have looked in the mirror after he reprimanded you for working on Sunday: he was part of the reason you were there!)

If you paid attention and read your bible as a good little child you would have learned to honor the sabbath day. God himself set the example for resting 1 day in 7 after the creation of the Earth. Did He need to rest? NO! He's God!! It's an example for us to live by so that we too may have the needed rest our bodies require (which we always shortchange and give it very little). So, you can't get mad at him for telling you the truth. If you don't want to hear it, that's your own choice and that's ultimately between you and God alone. Now as for being rude and tipping you poorly, there is no excuse for that. They should be Christ-like examples to the people that come into their lives on a daily basis and it gives Christianity a bad name. I cannot apologize on their behalf but it is unacceptable and you are right to be upset at that.

There are some 2 billion Christians in this world. You're going to assume they are ALL like a handful from this particular church you went to?

Your old Sunday school teacher should know his sin is greater because he WENT to the restraunt, thereby forcing you to work...

You make an excellent point. Those are people who take out their Christianity on Sundays and hang it up in the closet the rest of the week. They do it because they are not walking with the Lord. I hope you don't think all church people are like that.

It's not just church people, but many people. Some people have horrible manners and it has nothing to do with their religion. I know many people who go to church and are kind, polite and "good-tippers". You have to keep an open mind, and if you want be "the light of the world" to these rude people. You're reward will be from above.

I'm one of the nice "church people" and I'm always very well behaved in restaurants and leave generous tips. You either went to the wrong church or work in a terrible restaurant. Make some changes!

They are Sunday christians. Holier than thou on Sunday and Satan's apprentices the rest of the week.

Galatians says it best at Gal.5:22-24 describing the fruitages of the spirit true Christians would display most of the time. Did not Jesus himself say "by their fruits you will recognise them" as true Christians.

What you see is an example of false christian religion in those men. 1Timothy ch. 3, gives the qualifications for elders and ministerial servants in the true congregation of God. Did any of these men come remotely close?

I think the same percentage of rude people can be found across the board but, I know what you mean. I think your perception of what a Church person should be like is so sharpened that it is really disturbing to See them acting like jerks which I admit I know some myself. I think it is kind of like a woman who is close to having a good figure but, has about 10 lbs to lose in the hips and thighs is far more criticized for those 10 lbs then someone who is evenly 40 lbs overweight.
