I know this is not a deep profound spiritual question but I'll ask it anyway. I would really like to know, why do people on this forum give you a star and not answer your question???? It's just a stupid little thing but I see it happen a lot. If you like the question enough to star it, why not answer it?

To Calmness before the storm - I put it in my private watchlist to follow up on a question. Your supposed to star a question if you like it. So why not answer it if you like it??

Thanks for the stars but I honestly was not trying to get stars but I was just wondering why?
To Kallan - I never thought of that one, that some people are kissing up to get best answer. good one.

Sometimes I think I don't answer if someone's already given a good answer. I think that's probably true for a lot of people.

When I star a question it is not because I approve of it but because I am interested in seeing other peoples answers and ideas on that subject. Staring it makes it easier for me to find quickly. That is why I keep my star tab cleared out, I un-star questions after people quit answering them.
If I don't answer it there will be a reason such as: I am unsure of how to answer it, I don't know how to answer it with being offensive (and don't feel like offending someone at that moment), I don't know the answer, etc...
I do this so rarely that I don't use my watch list. It never occurred to me to use my watch list because I was letting the person know I found the question interesting while I was keeping track of it.

I star questions all the time without answering them. Sometimes I don't have an answer, but I found the questioning interesting. At other times, I just don't feel like typing.

I have done this before. When I do it, it is because I think it is a good question, for which I do not have the answer. I star it so I can track it and check back on the answers.

Kallan has it exactly right. There are a few people here, though, whose questions I'll star and answer because they know I'm not begging for the best answer by starring it. (A few users that I chat with via e-mail.)

I star things so I can come back and read the answers later, most of the time I don't have an answer left.

Sometimes I give a star in agreement with the question.
Or I give a star to let others on my contact list to check out the question. Sometimes the question could be very ignorant.
So to me, a star, is sometimes an alert.

Simple- if I don't know the answer to the question, or don't have time to answer it, or just REALLY like it- I star it so at least someone who has me in their list sees it, or so i can come back and answer later.

To follow up on the answers given by other people.
For example I might not know enough to answer your question but Id think it was interesting or want to know what people actually say about it so Id star it to keep it in my little record of interesting questions :D

I do it when I like the question but either don't have an answer or just don't feel like answering it but still want to read other answers and give a signal to the asker that I liked the question.
