You used to have to buy stuff to get a credit report, but there was a law passed a year or two ago that the three credit reporting agencies have to give you one per year (each) for free. Just log on to www.annualcreditreport.com and follow the instructions. You can order all three at once. I personally order one from each reporting agency every 4 months...

you can go to any of the 3 major credit bureaus or go to annualcreditreport.com. By federal law everyone is entitled 1 credit report per credit bureau free per year..or you can obtain a free one by applying for credit and if denied you automatically qualify for a free report..hope this helps.

All of the major credit reporting agencies are require to provide a credit report if you reside in certain states in the US that have legislated the report. Otherwise you must always pay. (You may be able to get the report without paying even if you reside elsewhere if you're willing to stretch the truth about the state you reside.)
