I bought a key less entry remote to program for my car but the instructions that came with it are not working. Is says to turn the car ignition on 8 times within 10 seconds and the doors should unlock/lock then it's ready to program but this never happens. Any Ideas or anything specific? And don't say take it to a dealer cause they wanna charge 50bucks ;)

Exact directions

Do not start engine. Turn ignition switch form off to run 8 times within 10 seconds with the 8th time remaining in the run position. All doors will automatically lock then unlock to confirm the system is in program mode.

I never get the doors to unlock/lock

Your car probally doesn't have factory keyless entry if it won't enter the key FOB learning mode per the instructions. Many of these cars were program cars that dealers bought from auctions when they were a few months old, most of them were rental cars new and they were often ordered without keyless entry for some odd reason. When they got to the dealers most of them had an aftermarket keyless entry system istalled because the buyers wanted it. If it has one of these systems the factory key FOBs will not work with it, even if it was a Ford parts keyless entry system that said Ford on the remotes.

The "key less entry system is a ford with the number pads on the door. The ford power lock sytems all come with remote unlock/lock fob. Did you buy your remote from a Ford dealer? If not it might not work at all. If you bought the remote at a dealer they should program it for you. I would call around to a few different dealers. Like one other person said the parts or service department can run your vehicle Id number through the "oasis" system to find out what the car came with. I order rental cars and we usually just toss the fobs in the car folders so the customers don't loose them. When we send the cars to the auction we put the fobs with the keys. I have yet to see a 2000 and up taurus with out remote unlock feature. Many do not have "key less" entry though. In fact most rentals don't because the number pads on the doors don't hold up well to the abuse they get.

When you turn the key on turn you're not engaging the starter are you? If so you're turning it too far. You need to stop at the on position where the key is when the car is running. Also make sure you have the car in park and try closing all of the doors sometimes they won't program with a door open.

Also does it specify to stop the cycle when the key is in the on or off position because it does make a difference. Finally make sure the remote came with a battery. If this Taurus is an SE, SES or SEL then it came with keyless entry from the factory. Good luck.

Biker trash is correct...many have power door locks but don't have the keyless entry.

If it doesn't go into the mode, like he says it won't usually have it..

Wanna make sure? bring the vin number to the parts department of your dealer and have him run the vin number in something called VCIS.. It will tell you what was ordered on the car at time of order.

That model can't be programmed using a scan tool... the dealer uses the same method as you do to program..some dealers charge for stupidity (or the customer not wanting to read the owners manual first)
