This term can be traced back to Hollywood in the 1930's. Many young women left their hometowns all over the country and headed to Southern California seeking fame and fortune in the movie industry. Often they would bleach their hair blonde for their screen test. Obviously, few were sucessful. The term "bleach Blondes" arose and it was considered a negative, and used to describe unsophisticated young women. In the 1980's this term morphed into "dumb blondes" with the rise of "dumb blonde jokes". These jokes were considered politically correct because they were not insulting to any specific religious, ethnic or racial group. Also they were safe because they poked fun at a physical characteristic that was for the most part considered desirable in American culture. Obviously, as with all derogatory humor, things got out of hand.

Personally, I don't think it originated from beauty or celebrities. It might have something to do with the fact that since there are fewer natural blondes alot of people dye their hair blonde and I guess those are more of the ditzy superificial people maybe? I have no clue. lol

Well,if you askme, I think that it originated because of -Cough- Paris Hilton and Nicole Richie. I think that since they are big celebrities, and they are both blonde, and dumb, people assosiated Blondes as stupid. Its ttly false though, because some of my friends are blonde, and they are really smart.

It's time to stop the discrimination!

Probably from those ditzy girls who dye their hair blonde, if it isn't already. You know the type, they "tee hee" and fall over any word from a guy, low IQ, big boobs (implants?), short skirts with tight shirts on heels that they can't walk in, etc.

I'd say because traditionally the most beautiful people tend to have blonde hair. I suppose in order to keep beautiful, you have to work hard and don't have time to read books or pay attention in school? Who knows.

As I've noticed in my own life, beauty and brains are mutually exclusive.
