The problem is political, historical, religious, sociological and psychological.
Most of the "religious right" in our country are probably descended from Puritanical, poor people. Maybe they only learned how to read from the Bible, maybe they lack exposure to other "biblical" tribes. Jesus accepted everyone and that's what they spout. Never mind what Jesus said and did, the Christians have been judge and jury since the Inquisition. They burned Jews. Jews were sacrificed during the Holocaust.
Christians were the worst thing to ever happen to Christianity.
Come to think of it, Islam appeared around 700 B.C. They're conducting an Inquisition, just like the Holy Church. It's Karma.
We're all caught in a Holy War between the followers.
By the way, Islam decrees death for homosexuals.
History repeats itself. Some of my female ancestors were treated as witches. Scary women! They owned property, could speak with the natives and translate!
Churches and politicians ALWAYS have to have power. They can't very well target the Jews, the Germans did it. They can't target blacks, slavery did it. HOMOS! It's only 10% of the population!
It's always a minority! Christianity is a "bully pulpit"

Because they are legalist, and they are in denial about it.
Here is the way to check: Ask them whether or not Paul and James taught the same message. If they answer, "yes", then they are in denial about being a legalist. If they answer No, but we lean towards James, then they might be in denial about being a Legalist, but they know that they have to act a certain way to 'earn' their salvation. It get's cpmplicated there because they are in denial about that too.
If they say "No, Paul and James did not preach the same message, and James was wrong and Paul was right " , then they are probably not Legalists at all. If they make no special notice of homosexuals as to the possible salvation then they have it right.
I know that I seem dogmatic about this, but I would say that, in my opinion, the scriptures are clear, especially when the Old Testement is diciphiered, that we are all sinners, deserving death, but have found grace with God through Jesus Christ by faith.

It doesn't with me. I still strongly think it immoral..... But you see the real issue is not whether homosexuality is a sin or if it is a civil right to be so.... the real issue is whether the government should endorse something that many of the voters would oppose. At the most it should come to a general vote by either the states or the nation for a federal amendment........ but I think it should be decided by the states. That way California could endorse gay marriage and Texas ban it, if they will. There does not have to be uniformity among the states.

Like any other sin, homosexuality is condemned by God. That's why we get "so riled up", but just because we're haters of sin, does not mean we're haters of sinners. The reason we are strongly against it is usually because we care about where other people are going during their lives and after. People claim homosexuality is a lifestyle, yet it is nothing more than a choice like every other sin.

1) Those who do are not really Christians.
2) They can't really get angry with many other things, as all of them lead a sinful lifestyle anyway, so they pick on the one thing (being gay) which they are not, and blame all the problems on it. For example the Bible very clearly speaks out against rich people, and the vast majority of Americans, certainly all the ones who can afford a PC are rich, do you see them yelling here that they will abandon all their wealth (aka sinful lifestyle) or go to hell? Of course not, because it's not convinient for them to talk about those verses in the Bible, because then that would mean they are all going to hell :)
Edit: I'll add an 3) not to finish off my answer so gloomy. So..
3) But Christianity teaches forgiveness, love, and that everyone and yes everyone rich, poor, gay, straight, black, white who accepts Jesus as their saviour, and accepts the fact that Jesus already died for all of our sins, will be with God, and all TRUE Christians know that :)

I have not seen any criticism on here except in reply to a question that raises the issue. You asked a question and got an answer, what did you expect, praise?

Politicians knows hate motivates the base.
More people will get off their butts and protest gay marriage than help in a soup kitchen, advocate for health care for all (hey, christians, remember Lazarus? Isn't that story more important than any of the gay stuff?), and preach love.
Positive stuff just doesn't motivate certain types of people.

It doesn't matter what I think about them. They're people, too. It's only the Hitler youth that want to spill their blood, which is interesting because I hear that homosexual rape is common at their training camps!!!! Hahahah!!! It just doesn't get any goofier than that!! Go figure....

I don't get that either, because if they are Christians, then "though shall not judge. Love thy neighbor" It isn't their place to judge, it is your makers, and it isn't love thy neighbor unless they are gay!!! this is why they become hypocrites to themselves, and religion. They can point their fingers with judgment but they have 3 pointing right back at them. Everyone sins every day, and they are sinning for judging homosexuality. Even if the bible states it, it is not their place to judge others

abortion is one.
as Christians, we are to strive to be holy. one thing that's unholy, is condoning sin. when someone tries to make sin law, then it's almost the worst form of condoning sin. we are to try to obey laws that aren't against God. so then there's one law we have to break.
then there's that as a Christian, you automatically stereotyped as an intolerant, ignorant homophobe. this gets annoying. the more teasing, the more outbursts
then there's that people keep calling jesus gay.
then there's that since most of us are not gay, we have the natural tendancy to find it appalling. the more something we don't like is forced at as, the more we reject it
