Consumer reports will give him a good rating but he will be "smoked" by Chevrolets.

I think Stewart will be fine. It'll take Gibbs a few races to get used to the changes and how to adjust the car. However, look at the progress that Toyota has made so far! When the Red Bull Cars qualify, Brian Vickers runs well! I think that Gibbs has an advantage over the other Toyota teams, because they would ALREADY be in the top 35 in owner points, so they wouldn't have to worry about making the races, but only about improving their cars for race day. Naturally, Gibbs will run better in Chevys intially, but Toyota will be able to provide a lot more factory support in the end. That could mean better results for Tony.

Tony has proven he can win driving all sorts of cars. If Gibbs goes with Toyota, which I do not think they will, then the Gibbs stable would be the guys getting Toyota there first wins. It may take a season or two, but Toyota will get this Cup Series racing down, just as they have in th Craftsman Truck Series.

As much as I don't like Tony; I would have to say it really doesn't matter what type of car he is in. He is Tony Stewart one the top five most talented Drivers in NASCAR Today; and argueably one of the great Drivers in Motorsports history.
Toyota, Dodge, Ford, it doesn't matter. Tony has taken wrecked cars to Victory Lane; I am quite sure if Coach Gibbs gives him a Toyota he can get that to victory lane as well.

There's one answer to this I believe. If Gibbs goes to Toyota, Stewart will make a quick run for the exit (or at least try to).
I am a big fan of Toyota being in NASCAR, but they simply are not ready for the big-named driver (except for a couple of almost ready to retire drivers). And, I'm sure Stewart knows that.

He and Denny would do better than anyone else alreadt driving a Toyota but I don't feel that either would contend for the cup. One of them could get their fist win but they would not be the consitently dominant cars like they are now. Joe Gibbs is a smart man and always wants to stay ahead of the curve. Heck, he left Pontiac after just winning 2 championships with them.

Gibbs won't be in Toyota's next year. I think Penske is the one switching over. If it does happen, Stewart will be the first one to win in a Toyota!

Hopefully Gibbs won't switch to Toyota, but if they did....
Could you imagine the fit Stewart would throw? I know he would be mad. He'd be blaming Gibbs and Toyota on the switch if he wasn't good, wasn't winning races, wasn't in the top 12 in points, oh I can just hear Stewarts mouth now.
With that said, I hope they stick with Chevy.

Tony Stewart will still win. The bumpers work the same on Toyota. He just pushes people out of the way, so it really does not matter what car he drives.
