I was diagnosed with ADD when I was younger. My hubby has noted that my hands shake sometimes. He said he's heard this is a sign of ADD.
I was just wondering if the shakiness is from my ADD or just me being stressed out or nervous.
Thanks!

It happens mostly when I do intricate things such as apply finger nail polish or something like that which I have lost of trouble doing. Hubby says it breaks his heart to see me struggle with that.

I've always had the shakiness, btw. It's never bothered me so much that I need meds or anything for it. It's just frustrating sometimes.

Maybe your hands shake because you're blood sugar has dropped too low. Note when it happens- before meals, when you haven't eaten, or after a sugary food.

A tremor of the hands is not a sign of ADD. What your husband may have been thinking of is that many of the drugs used to treat ADD may lead to a tremor of the hands. Most people note an occasional tremor of the hands for a wide variety of reasons. The question is how occasional and how severe is the tremor. Any tremor that interferes with activity deserves medical attention and any tremor that occurs more than once a week deserves medical attention. Try to determine the circumstances of the tremor. Does it happen when you are stressed - tired - have over used your hands - hungry - and so on. If you are not able to link the tremor to any circumstance that would tend to suggest that you seek medical attention as well. Sometimes - but not always - my hands shake a little bit when I am hungry, tired, stressed, angry, and if I spend too much time writing or typing. Most of the patients who consult me for a tremor of the hands turn out to have a benign tremor which does not always require treatment.

Now that you mention it, being stressed out can also be a symptom of ADD. I wonder if what you are describing is related to the fact that ADD people have notoriously bad penmanship. One way to test if the symptom is ADD related is to see if t goes away when you take a dose of stimulant, coffee, tea, ritalin, etc. My favorite is a good belt of Rock Star. Of course if you are already ingesting loads of caffeine you could be shaky because of too much caffeine. BTW I get shakes and twitches from Earl Grey tea, which I love. It's not the caffeine it's the bergamot. In any case it wouldn't hurt to check with your doc. Why put up wth something like that if you don't have too.

Do your hands shake more when you are nervous or tired? Does anyone else in your family have the same symptoms? If you drink alcohol, do your hands stop shaking when you drink?
You might have a nervous benign tremor. Check with your doctor to make sure. There is a high blood pressure drug that I have taken in the past that makes the tremor subside. It's called Inderol.

I don't think shakiness has anything to do with ADD, which is attention deficit disorder. I would suggest having your blood sugar checked. It might be too low. In fact, a complete checkup might be in order to determine if there are any other causes for your tremors, such as Parkinson's Disease or some other neurological disorder.

Your hand shaking is a sign you need to strengthen your nervous system, which may be connected with the reason you were diagnosed with ADD. I would recommend Vitamin B-Complex.
