This co worker of mine went to my desk...I went down the hall to get something and came right back...she read my emails and announced to everyone my emails! I am really angry at her for doing that...what is a correct way to approach her on it and make sure she never does it again? ***** slap her?
I hate working with her! She is so lazy! She surfs the internet while I work.

I would never leave your email up while away from your desk again...but tell your boss, this is a breach of privacy. she had no reason other than being nosy to read your mail, imagine it were postal mail, you would consider this mail fraud, I thinkit is just as serious and I would mention it to the boss. Chances are someone else has a this problem with her and your boss may be looking for a reason to get rid of her. I know I would if she were my employee.

1. Do not have personal emails sent to your work email address, and do not send personal emails with your work email. Use a yahoo or other such account, and that way it's password protected.
2. When you leave your desk - log off, or use the lock function in windows to lock the computer requiring a password to reenter.
3. If the emails she read were personal, drop it. You will get no sympathy from your boss if you say to him that you had personal emails on there and your friend read them. You'd both get in trouble. If the emails were work related, then you could if you wanted to report her to the IT manager because this is a breach of security. However, you'd probably be viewed as a complainer since you could avoid this issue if you'd do the right thing and lock the computer when you leave the area. It only takes a second.

While your co-worker was definitely treading on your personal information - you did indeed leave the PC screen open to peeking eyes & curious passer-bys. Office politics is funny in some ways - and there is no real 'correct' way to address this intrusion into your emails.
However, I strongly suggest CTRL-ALT-DEL and lock your PC screen whenever you leave your desk, even if something as quick as a run to the water fountain - you never long who you may run into along the way - and you could leave yourself out there for the prying eyes of not only co-workers, but superiors who frown upon your email ettiquette and/or content.

You've just found out that the lazy one who does nothing but surf the Net at work is keen to get you labelled as that. All you can do is log off each time you leave the room. You can report her but it won't achieve anything. The managers won't give her a warning for being obnoxious. See if you can move your desk away from her or get a desk in another office, to solve this problem. She is intent on irritating you, so don't let her.

Don't talk to her about it. IF You need to say somthing. Be SMART about it. Tell her "I don't appriciate an ignorant co worker and what you did was immature. I will be seeing a higher up about the situation. So you best be on your tippy toes." And walk away. Go FIRST thing to your boss. explain the situation and how you feel. You want to be the bigger person here. Don't let her get under your skin, everytime you see her, SMILE and evil but happy smile. It will confuse her, she wont know whats comming, if she gets fired. :D

Tell her it was a violation of privacy. She does not have the right to a) use your computer (many companies have policies regarding this because of accountability going on websites, security tracking etc b) violation of your privacy (tell her that it's against federal law to open up and read someone's mail, and while it's not as severe for email that privacy issue still applies.
She sounds like a moron, this might be a better topic to discuss with your supervisor.

I paintings the IT branch for my employer. for my section, i've got faith your IT guy grew to become into out of line. Technically, your employer has the impressive to demonstrate screen any tips on any employer computer. that doesn't advise they continuously would desire to. I even have the skill to look at something in any computer interior the employer. i will get admission to any digital mail account interior the employer. I unquestionably have finished get admission to to the CEO's computer and digital mail. the only time I get admission to any employer tips is while there is an good want. Then, if I would desire to get admission to any inner maximum tips i'm discreet. it quite is important me to have the have faith of my supervisors and co-workers. in the event that they theory i grew to become into prying into tips that I should not be finding at, i could lose this have faith.

Take it up with her first.. BEFORE you make your boss handle it.
Tell her in person that what she did was not very professional and that she should not do it again. You could include saying something like "Why would you do that?" to make her realize how stupid she was acting. If she continues - tell your boss.

That is pretty messed up. If she does it again you just ahve to lay the law down and tell her to quit, flat out. You already don't like her so who cares if she thinks your an asshole.
