Mainly the type of God portrayed . The Old Testament God is very vengeful and seems to be at his best when mass killing people. He is also a more personal God, he pops down to earth and speaks with people - I think at some point he even has a wrestling match with one of the Jews. Another point is that he is very partisan in the Old Testament, and is fighting on the Jew's side throughout. He gives Moses the Arc of the Covenant which is basically a superweapon which the Jews use to slaughter their enemies.

The New Testament God is more passive - Jesus is effectively his mouth and ears. Jesus does a few slightly unpleasant things (drowning pigs etc), but on the whole treats human life with great respect. God communicates via angels, visions and Jesus in the NT, but I don't think he directly communicates with humans at any point. He is less partisan, and doesn't seem to take sides - the good samaritan story is an example of this.

The old testament is the foundation of knowledge in fact the new could not be understood in its completeness without the old.

The new testament is commentary on the old testament and a telling of the Messiah's first coming.

The division between the two is artifical and man made. When the bible was first canonized there was no division.

Everything you need to know about salvation is contained in the Old testiment.

the Old Testament lays the foundation for, and was meant to prepare the Israelites for, the coming of the Messiah who would sacrifice Himself for their sins (and for the sins of the world as well). The New Testament shares the life of Jesus Christ and then looks back on what He did and how we are to respond to His gift of eternal life and live our lives in gratitude for all He has done for us
