Sounds like what I have, Melasma. Its usually brought on either by pregnancy, sun damage, hormonal changes, so the best advice I can give you is to go in and see your doctor to confirm it, and then quite possibly he'll refer you to a dermatologist.

I had the same problem on my face mostly, so I went to a private place (doesnt take insurance) and had a silk peel followed by a laser treatment and it completely removed the melasma! Now I just have to keep sunblock on my face all the time and avoid over exposure to maintain results. I also use a good line of facial products through Clinique.

Sun causes this it is doing the same to me and I went to a dermatologist.. She said some pigments darken more than others when in the sun/suntanning.. use sunblock. But if they do hurt or turn black you may have a type of cancer and need to seek help..

You need to see a dermatologist there is probably nothing wrong with but just to make sure go to a Doctor.

eh, don't scare her!

You just develop more as you get older, if you're younger that would be why.

But watch them and if they tend to grow darker, like black or dark brown, and hurt, then you do want to see a doctor.
