The Murano is a car based SUV actually its build on a modified Nissan Altima chassis so you can expect a car like drive. I would highly reccomend this SUV since I had my girlfriend buy one in 06 and we both love it to death. I believe the Mitsubishi Pajero compares more toward the truck based SUV's such as the Highlander, Xterra, and Pathfinder since it has great offroading capablities. Plus think about reliablity and resale value... Mitsubishi has had its know issues for a long while now and Nissan is in the top 3 for reliablity and resale value... just some food for thought

the Murano has better handling since it sits lower than the Pajero. also, it shares platform with the new Skyline/Infiniti G35 so you could expect a similar performance from those i mentioned.

i'd say among similarly sized SUVs, the toyota highlander has the best handling. as for the choices you provided - it's the murano.
