What are your thoughts about ceiling fans? Are they tacky? Do they make a home's decor look bad? Seems like those home decorating shows on tv always remove ceiling fans. Does that mean that ceiling fans are outdated and not trendy?

People only remove those cheap generic fans. The first thing that I do, when i move, is invest in some high quality fans (like hunter) that compliment the decor of that room. Ceiling fans are also great selling features hen it's time to move.

Ceiling fans do a lot to save energy by circulating air. So many models that look great are available. Usually, the ones that are removed on improvement shows are the cheap models. I have seen designers on TV add ceiling fans to rooms. Only time I think they look tacky is over a dining room table.

They're only tacky if they're cheap and ugly and noisy. We had one, and installed 2 more a couple years ago. The air flow is so good now that we don't have to use the AC in this heat. Everyone I know has them and I never considered them tacky unless they're cheap and ugly in an otherwise nice house.

If they are cheap, they are tacky. Spend some money and make it look good. Here in the Midwest, they are an absolute necessity in the Summer to move the chilled air about.

Hamilton is a very good brand - you may have to go with a white ceiling fan unless you paint the blades a different color before you assemble the fan.

Not at all, they add to the decor and are functional.
So what anyway, with the price of energy and the need to conserve energy- fans are the way to go.

Some of the newer ones are really cool. I saw one that was designed as a rose, it was so pretty! check out some of the home mags for updated versions of ceiling fans.

personally i think it depends on the look fan and if it fits with the place you plan on putting it at.however its your house and 99% of the time it'll be you looking at them so its your choice
