Just on the off chance that there might be a mormon here that supports polygamy...

I was wondering if mormons that want polygamy to be legalized wanted it only to be legal for a man to have multiple wives, or would they also support it being legal for a woman to have multiple husbands?

Do you believe that it would be wrong for a woman to have multiple husbands, and do you think that should be against the law?

Also, should it be legal for bi-sexual people to have multiple husbands and wives? Or would you want that to be illegal?

I already know that the official Mormon church no longer supports polygamy. I'm looking for an answer from one of the ex-communicated Mormons that still want to see it legalized.

It was started by JS, not to take care of widows, but to 'take care of' 16-year-old Fannie Alger, his second one was Lucinda Morgan Harris, who was married to another man at the time. JS married 31 other women secretly, many after Smith sent their husbands on 'missions'.

During the inception and height of Mormon polygamy, LDS leaders taught that the practice was "essential to salvation." Joseph Smith's "revelation on celestial marriage" stated "as pertaining to the new and everlasting covenant,...he that receiveth a fulness thereof must and shall abide the law, or he shall be damned, saith the Lord God" (D&C 132: 6.) Brigham Young repeated that mandate when he preached that "the only men who will become gods...are those who enter into polygamy." Young, Heber C. Kimball, and other leaders often rebuked men who were reluctant to enter into polygamy, "counseling" them to "do their duty." The claimed necessity of plural marriage even prompted Mormon leaders to advocate the idea that Jesus Christ himself had been a polygamist. Joseph F. Smith, who was the LDS president until 1918, stated emphatically that a man with only one wife could not receive "an exaltation as great and glorious..as he possibly could with more than one." (JoD, vol. 20, p. 28.) Until 1890, Mormon men were encouraged to be "sealed" to as many wives as possible, up to a stated "limit" of 99, so that those wives would be part of their "celestial inheritance." All of these statements counter Gordon B. Hinckley's recent assertion that polygamy was intended to be a "very limited practice....carefully safeguarded."
But now the answers would be: No, no, yes and no/yes.

I don't support it, but I can see why it would be attractive to some.

The church wasn't started so Joseph Smith could have multiple wives!!!!!!! Everything he did was legal for his state, and it was done with the utmost respect to the women he married. None were forced into it, none were taken away from their families. All the people- and sites- that say that are wrong. They have no idea what they are talking about!!!

Anyway, back to your question. If we were commanded to live the law of polygamy again, it would be done this way: The first wife, or each subsiquent wife, would get to meet and spend time with any other woman the man wanted to bring into the family. The wife(ves) would have to approve her. If one didn't like her, she would be out. It wasn't done without the consent of the other wives, so the woman really had a lot of control of the situation.

Also, the wife/wives would set up a schedule for the husband. If one wife didn't want to sleep with the husband at all, that would be her choice, and would be respected by all. It is all done by respect and love for all involved.

I don't think polygamy would work with multiple husbands. I can just see having to clean up after more then one guy!! No thank you!!!! I'm sure my hubby would agree with me on that too. Also, having to put with more then one man snoring all the time would drive me crazy!! I couldn't do it, let alone sleep with all of them. Man!! I would have no time for anything else!

I don't believe that bi-sexuality is right, so as far as that goes, I would say no. I don't believe in that sort of thing, but that's just me, and I'm not knocking anyone who is, it's just my opinion.

I'm sure if the Lord asked me to deal with polygamy, I would find a way to deal with it, and be fine about it. As it stands right now, it would be very hard for me to accept it. But it would be nice to have help around here!! All you have to do is find a wife that could cook, one that could clean, one that loved to deal with kids, and one that made lots of money, and you'd be set!!!!

There are about 12 Million Mormons and relativly few off shoot groups that have mormon-like beliefs. My guess is a few thousand of em.

I don't know a single Mormon who wishes that polygamy were available or legalized. What you're looking for is probably a 1 in 100,000 type of thing. I'm married....Having multiple wives.....wow.....that would be tough!

Polygamy was started by the LDS Church in accordance with Biblical scripture. Many Biblical Israelites had more than one wife. See Solomon, Abraham, Isaac, etc.

The basis for instituting polygamy was due to the fact that there were more women joining the Church than men. In order to supply a home and a family for the women who were outnumbering the men 10 to 1, and in accordance with the practice having Biblical origins, the LDS church received revelation that the practice should be re-instituted again.

Currently, as the need for polygamy no longer exists, ie that there are no longer large numbers of women converts who cannot find a spouse, the practice was disavowed. those who practice it are NOT members of the LDS church. If there are, they are ex-communicated as it no longer is an acceptable practice.

This sounds like you are trying to write a Mormon version of that 70's television show Soap. If I were a Mormon, I might be pretty offended by this question.

so a protracted way as i understand, that is not any longer reported. the closest factor to any type of fact or chastisement related to marriage concerns how the Lamenites have been doing extra advantageous at retaining their marriage covenants than the Nephites because of the fact the Lamenites enjoyed their better half mutually as the Nephites on the time have been working around on their better half. i'm going to work out if i will discover financial disaster and verse and edit my answer. EDIT: ok, so i'm incorrect. Beta_fishy got here across a passage in Jacob. the only i develop into talking approximately is: Jacob 3:5-6 Behold, the Lamanites your brethren, whom ye hate because of the fact of their filthiness and the cursing which hath stumble upon their skins, are extra righteous than you; for they have not forgotten the commandment of the Lord, which develop into given unto our father—that they should have save it have been one spouse, and concubines they should have none, and there should not be whoredoms committed between them. 6 And now, this commandment they word to maintain; wherefore, because of this observance, in retaining this commandment, our lord god won't smash them, yet would be merciful unto them; and sooner or later they shall develop right into a blessed human beings.

Mormonism was started by Joseph Smith specifically BECAUSE he wanted multiple wives/women so no, it doesn't work for women. The current Mormon church supposedly excommunicates polygamists. But some still practice it.
