Absolutely not! It is really nice.. easy cleanup, less hassle to prepare.. the only problem I have found is if you are having a small wedding, you may have trouble meeting the minimum to get a private room. It would be cheaper all in all to go that way, but much easier on yourself and if you pick a nice restaurant, it certainly won't look like the cheap way out.

The only thing is.. where I live, we could not find a restaurant that let you rent a private room on the weekend!! Call around early if this is what you are thinking about doing. You can choose buffet style, which is cheaper, and you can choose 2 or 3 main courses, then the sides, etc.

I worked for a restaurant last summer (in the business office) and we had 3 weddings a weekend booked solid for like a year. It's not tacky at all. Just make sure that the room where the wedding will be is secluded from the rest of the restaurant so that you don't bother the other diners. (You won't have to rent chairs, tablecloths, etc.)

I perform weddings for a living. I have, on many ocassions, performed weddings at the restaurants where afterwards the reception was held. I see this more and more as a trend as oppossed to people spending countless amounts of money doing things the old fashioned way. So, no, it is not tacky at all and many restaurants in my area offer packages for that exact same purpose.

That depends.
If all the food and drink is paid for by the couple, and the guests just enjoy, then no, it is not tacky; it's usually a great choice.
If, however, the restaurant has been reserved, but the guests are required to actually order and pay for themselves, then it is definitely tacky!

Absolutely not! I actually do banquet serving at a restaurant on the weekends and I love it. Since it is a smaller group of people usually everyone talks a lot more and it isn't just talking at the tables. Something we will do is once tables start to mingle is actually remove chairs so people have to walk around. THis way its not just sitting and drinking, but instead you are making an effort to meet new people and talk with ones you already know.

One of the best receptions I went to was at a restauraunt. I dont think its tacky at all... I would definitley ask for them to shut off a room or something for the wedding party and guests.

It depends on how big the party's going to be, and if the restaurant can accommodate a party in a private room, and have extra service available.

We had our reception at our favorite restaurant, and it was great. The staff was super, they put us in a private room, and we had a great time. I highly recommend it.

Only if the restaurant is Hooters.

Only if the place is tacky.

I assume you are getting a private room.

Tacky is an all you can eat chinese buffet without a private room. Went to a child's first birthday party like that.

absolutely not! by all means, go for it! when my father remarried he held the reception at a restaurant and it was beautiful. with the right decorations, the place can look as good as any reception hall. what's most important to many couples is good food, good music, and good people! run with it!

Why would it be tacky? Most restaurants, even diners, have banquet rooms with a separate entrance for all kinds of parties. They do catering, or you can bring in your own caterer.
