Believe it or not the RR cartoons are based on old Southwestern Indian folk tales. In these tales the coyote is the representation of a trickster and deceiver ... a kind of bad guy. The Road runner represents the triumph of ingenuity and faith against deception. The cartoons are of course a hollow Hollywood reinterpretation for a secular audience.

Wile E. Coyote is like someone trying to convert someone and chases after him willing to do anything to catch his next targeted conversion no matter how futile the pursuit.Acme is sort of the Bible he has to work with.It always works good in theory but never has any practical application.

That's what I see when I think of it in these terms.
