Bought a used '02 Nissan Altima SL from a Ford dealer. Clearly the dealer didn't know that it had an automatic start.

I was fooling around with the control and got it to start but I don't know exactly how.

The keyless remote appears to be the stock Altima remote and has the follow buttons:

1. Door Lock
2. Door Unlock
3. Trunk unlock
4. Panic

(This is the model - http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/2002-2003-2004-2005-NISSAN-ALTIMA-KEYLESS-REMOTE_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ33723QQihZ019QQitemZ290129579797QQrdZ1)

Holding buttons 1+2 together appears to toggle the car between silent and non-silent (horn beeps) locking of the car.

However, I have no clue how to automatic start the car. I've tried holding all different combinations of buttons but nothing.

Any ideas?

Where did you get that idea. Hold the unlock button the power windows in front go down. No automatic start was offered on that car unless it was aftermarket installed then there will be a different remote. Look under the steering coloum and see if there is additional wiring around the ingnition switch and black boxes zip tied to the wiring harnesses. And a silver toggle switch and push button to over ride the alarm system red LED light?.

You were misinformed. The Altima will not lock itself when you exit the vehicle you have to hit the button on the passanger or driver door for it to lock. Some people just act like they know what they are talking about. But on the other hand the system will relock itself if unlock you vehicle and do not enter it within 30 seconds... that might be what he/she was talking about.
