Am I right about this?
If so why don't christians perform such tasks ( not literally but figuratively)
I'm not saying all christians are the same but the majority I have encountered act like I am less than them.
Just wondering?

They act like I am less by talking down to me. I have read the bible & I see the same words but they don't seem to mean the same thing to me as it does to them. So automatically because I am the one questioning they disregard me and talk to me very aggressively. All I am trying to do is understand.

I believe the statement he was trying to make when he did this, was that we are all part of God, and we are all worthy, and we are all one. Separation between us and God, as well as between us and each other is nothing but an illusion. He was a messenger, and part of his message was that he was no more special than any of the rest of us, that we are all just as special as he was. Being worshiped was never his intent. He merely wanted to show our true selves to us...he wanted to show us what we are capable of expressing, if we just believe and remember who and what we really are. He was trying to remind us of who and what we really are! *sm*

I don't think that was his reason totally.
I think his real reason was to show absolutly that a leader must be willing to do anything He or She expects the followers to do. Contrary to popular management styles, a true leader will do whatever it takes to get the job done.
I believe that this was a model for leaders. Example: My husband is a professional chef. He does the dishes, puts the huge orders away, and all of those other things that he could dismiss as being below him. Why does he do these things? So his staff understands that he will do whatever it takes to get a job done. In return, he as a dedicated, yet rag-tag group of high school kids who listen to what he says, respect his authority, and will do anything for him. They know he will do anything for them.
I mean, really, would a Christian follow a saviour who had refused to wash his disciples feet? Is that a model for the leaders of today's Christian church in any way?
When I see people like Pat Robertson, I ask myself if he would wash the feet of his maid or his janitor or the woman or man who cleans the TBN parking lot. Think about it.

Because most aren't TRUE Christians...
Christ set the example, he demonstrated the principle of being humble and ministering to others.
Back then, people walked everywhere, most roads were packed dirt, one's feet would get dusty esp. when travelling long distances. Washing the feet was a common courtesy, an act of hospitality extended to guests. Although none were the homeowner in the case noted, still someone should have taken the responsibility. It was an object lesson in humility - none should consider themselves above the task.
Unfortunately not all follow this example; and none are capable of following it perfectly. The important thing is that we make the effort to serve others.
See Matt 7:21-23

I would say that there are "Christians" that do not act like Christ in any way. The sad thing is that there are people all over the place giving Christ and Christians a bad name. You are right. Christians should be serving other people to help each other out. Check out www.marshill.org. I think you will find a church that exemplifies that.

Yes you are right.
Christians do perform this literally and figuratively.
Know one can know half of what other people do, let alone all of what the majority does. But there will always be bad apples in every bunch. How do they act like you are less then them?

As a former contributors of the international Church of God, we practiced the footwashing as quickly as consistent with annum during the hot testomony Passover service that honored the evening of Christ's betrayal ( and for this reason His dying). The symbols of the bread and wine replaced the emblem of the Passover Lamb which Christ fulfilled. while we left the WCG over doctrinal subject concerns (they grew to grow to be a typical protestant chruch, Sunday/ yule/ easter/, we disagreed), my spouse and that i persevered the footwashing as area of our annual Passover service for some years. Then i began out reading that distinctive element of Christ's final night together with his disciples greater heavily. We take the bread and the wine as symbols of the sacrifice Christ made for us, yet we now no longer do the footwashing. My own study have shown me that it grow to be completed as an occasion for us yet isn't area of the ordinance for the Passover service. a precise learn will teach you why Christ completed the footwashing and analyzing the money owed in each and all of the gospels approximately that night will teach you that the disciples did no longer get His element. the only "washing" ordinance that i'm rather confident is needed of Christians is baptism. I even have not prepared this learn in any style of format or something, yet once you relatively desire to be responsive to greater email me and that i will attempt to complex greater.
