Depends on what you are looking to buy. If it was for myself, I would spend anywhere from $3500 to $6000 for a decent car. But like the last poster stated, if you look long enough and wait for the right deal, they are out there for less. Just take it to your mechanic to be checked out and run a VIN# check before you buy it.

Wide open question, a few years ago I picked up a used car for work for $100, 1984 cutlass darn thing lasted 4 years and only had to put on brakes, and tires have another that was a R-title 89 Sunbird paid $1800 for it and it still runs four years later, again, brakes, tires and alternator and exhaust , then again I have paid $3500 for a car that lasted 6 months. Now I buy new. Deals are out there but you have to find them.

I just bought a certified used sebring from the dealer yesterday. Very decent. 2004 with 44K miles. 8 grand.

but we got a neon like 3 mos ago for like $1800 with 60K miles on it and that too is decent, it all depends on where you go. Try autotrader.com you can define your search by price, model even color and search in your area. That is how we found both cars. Good luck!
