The most important thing is to force businesses not to hire illegals. Businesses would prefer to hire them, cause they can't report violations, and they can be paid less than minimum wage. That creates a situation where US citizens can't find jobs in areas of high illegal immigrant populations. Giving a few business owners with heavy fines will help to make our citizens lives much better. It's time we find a congress that is looking out for our best interests.

Remember one thing: It took armed soldiers shooting people from the wall to keep the East and West Berliners seperated. Even then people would try to dig under the wall or smuggle themselves across in the trunks of cars. There were many people being murdered every day (not just turned around or deported) and there were still attempts. Why do you think it was such a big event when the Berlin Wall finally came down and why people still talk about that day with pride? You can build a wall sky high and desperate people will still find a way to get past it.

The Berlin Wall kept the East Germans out of West Berlin.

It will never happen What bugs me is when they show a crummy 6 foot fence and the GATE that separates our countries is NEVER LOCKED. The illegals just open the gate and walk right through.

I don't understand why people keep bring up the Berlin Wall when they talk about a wall/fence between America and Mexico. The Berlin Wall was in the middle of ONE country and tried to keep their citizens inside the country. Our fence is to keep citizens of another country OUT of our country. There's a difference!

This is copied and pasted from another thread in which I answered much the same question.

Ask the Romans if fences work...
Hadrians wall was, in the end, a monumental waste of resources. So was the great wall of China. So is Israel's wall, attacks there haven't gone down because of the wall, they've gone down due to Palestinian infighting.

Honestly, in the end, nothing that any nation has ever done to prevent a mass migration has worked. People need to come to terms with the fact that America won't be able to do it either. On a power parity scale, the Romans and Ming Dynasty both kick the crap out of us, and if they couldn't stop it with the best tech of their day, and many times the personell that we have, we'll be hard pressed to do it.

I don't really see the problem with immigration anyway. It creates a larger internal market which strengthens the economy and brings more jobs. What more could we want?

The reason Immigrants are entering this country illegally is because there is work for them to do. I am Hispanic, college educated, and not interested in working construction, landscaping or food preparation. So I say, allow these immigrants to obtain legal status, so they can continue to work. For those who feel threatened by illegals, maybe its time for a career change. Lets face it, Immigrants are getting low end jobs, and the high end jobs are being outsourced to places like India where the pay is very low.

the particularly term is prohibited ALIEN, no longer unlawful "immigrant". while you're right here illegally you're no longer an immigrant. basically the "liberal" media and our government is making an attempt to dim the excellence between the two. have you ever heard the words "undocumented worker" utilized by utilising the media? Or, if the be conscious immigrant is used, the media never makes the excellence between whether the guy is prohibited or criminal. maximum folk of the U. S. electorate and a great huge form, if no longer majority of the criminal IMMIGRANTS know the version and are bored to death with illegals invading our u . s . and stealing from us. contained in relation to the government, they are desperate to create the North American Union, which will do away with the borders. Why do you think of they are so adamant approximately decriminalizing unlawful extraterrestrial beings? they want us to settle for illegals, yet we will not and it is driving them NUTS.

Not really. If not properly manned and maintained, people would just scale or dig under it. Don't forget that the Berlin wall only had to cross a single city. What you are talking about would have to cover hundreds of miles, and would cost billions and billions to maintain. So who is going to pay for this? You?

I think it would work only for a little while but then people would get clever by using explosisves to put holes in it so they can crawl through. Or people would have inovative ways to climb it. I do not think it would be the best method fpr keeping aliens out of the country. In my opinion why not place a large man made river with aligators in it. That would keep them out.
