Because without the fairies we would not know that the wasp stings are painful!

No? How about:

If fairies did not create the garden how would we know that it was beautiful or not?

That one does not make much sense either. Lets try:

Gardens can't just pop into existence by themselves, so there have to be fairies at the bottom of it!

Pretty weak. Lets just go for:
Because the Big Book of Fairy Stories tells me that they are there, so they must be.

Gardening just happens to be one of my passions. I grow my own fruits and vegetables, and a few roses on the side just for their aesthetic value. I enjoy doing all aspects of gardening, from preparing the soil, to planting, to maintenance, to harvest. I've spent countless hours out there in my garden, and I can honestly report to you that as of yet I haven't spotted a single fairy.

Some folks are careful not to step in the invisible steaming mounds of fairy crap. Others embrace a more empirical reality.

Proximity does not imply causality - and fantasy is bound to neither.

Why indeed? Perhaps because life is not just a beautiful garden - there's a lot of thorns and thistles in it too.

"Prove that the fairies aren't there"

I always enjoy the "prove God doesn't exist" analogies to show how ridiculous the statements are.

Because I said so... now get busy and entertain the fairies.

Are we talking gay garders or little magical creatures with wings?
