Personally, I believe that anyone who believes it is right to kill someone for writing a book expressing their own opinions (even if others may find it offensive, they have the freedom not to read it), is worthy of contempt.

The real question is how many of the Pakistani Muslims who are protesting his knighthood have read his ENTIRE BODY of WORK...from Grimus to Shalimar the Clown....answer NONE because his books are banned in Pakistan. Sooooo...what's with the protest? I must admit that I have been on the side of protestors in many of these issues: the Danish cartoon, etc, but this is ridiculous. Salman Rushdie is my FAVORITE author. He has written 11 books (I think). All of them masterpieces. THese protestors don't know this. They only know what they are told about this ONE book. Grrr! Oh, and not ALL Muslims are protesting Rushdie's knighthood. Just some people in Pakistan. That's liks saying that all Christians are against using condoms because the Pope and some Catholics are.

The Bible is a book about blood and murder too. Read the Old Testament. It is covered in teh blood of Caananites and Philistines, etc.

All I know is that years ago when this happened to Mr Rushdie, Gary Larson of the Far Side fame put out a hilarious comic about it.

It was a fish sitting in a recliner reading a book called "Atlantic Verses" by Salmon Rushdie
