I have three 3 1/2 week old kittens whose mom had to be put to sleep 4 days ago because of an injury. I have been feeding them KMR (milk replacer) from the vet, should I introduce kitten mush yet? How exactly do I make it, just mix dry kitten food with KMR? Is there anything special I should be doing?
They are sooo cute!! Also, there is a little one, the runt of the litter. Do you think it will make it?

As long as they eat, they should be ok.
Are they lapping the milk, or feeding from a dropper or bottle?
Mix the kitten food with the KMR so it is pretty sloppy - kind of cream of wheat texture. Just make a cup or so the first time, and put on the floor in a wide, shallow bowl.
If they don't seem to know what to do, put a little or the milk mush on their nose, and they will lick it off.
Make sure you love on the kitties every day - mom would wash them all over several times a day - they need lots of gentle massage, and holding.

I KNOW KMR IS EXPENSIVE BUT YOU SHOULD KEEP IT UP FOR AT LEAST ANOTHER WEEK. BUY THE SOFT CEREAL AND LEAVE A MIX OF THE FORMULA IN A BOWL NEXT TO IT TO SEE WHEN THEY ARE READY. ONCE YOU SEE THEM FEEDING OK FROM THE CEREAL THEN DISCONTINUE THE FORMULA. I'VE BOTTLE FED 2 KITTENS I RESCUED IN THE LAST YEAR. THE RUNT OF THE LITTER SHOULD BE FINE, JUST MAKE SURE TO TAKE THEM TO THE VET IN THE NEXT COUPLE OF MONTHS. GOOD LUCK.

I have been through the same ordeal and it sounds like you have it down pat. After being orphaned, the runt of the litter even got squished by my mom's garage door (she has a sensor on it now). That tiny little kitten made a full recovery in just 2 days and went on to become the largest, healthiest one of the group. Good luck with your new babies!

That is so sad! They will probably all make it - just keep feeding them and loving them.

If you are in Kentucky, please email me. I have a friend whose cat's litter of kittens was stillborn. The momma cat is very sad and is producing milk. I told my friend that the momma cat would probably adopt a litter if we could find one that needed it.

Good luck! :)
