Go to Control Panel ---> Double Click to open 'Network Connections'
For all the connections listed in the Lan or the Internet ateway Group right click and select properties
Put a check mark against 'Show Icon in Notification area when connected' and 'Notify me when this connection has limited or no connectuivity'
A notify icon will appear in the right side of the taskbar which will notify you a bout ur connection. If it glows then it means the connection is working. You can also right click the icon and select status to know more in details
