It depends on how much you weigh. Use an exercise calorie calculator to estimate it:

I've heard that the number of calories you burn in a mile is always the same, regardless of speed. I think it's about 90 calories/mile on average, but that probably depends on muscle mass, body weight, and all that stuff, too.

Why don't you try to use a treadmill. It's a gonna shows you.
I ran 3 miles yesterday 5.5 mph speed. I lost like 350 calories. That took me like 30 minutes in the treadmill. 3 miles for 1 hour, your speed should be at least 4 to 4.5 mph. That's kinda tough. With 3.5 mph speed I don't think you can reach 3 miles in an hour.

Think of calories as fuel. It takes fuel to move your carcass from one place to another. In physics, they call this "work".
If your body is an Escalade, it takes more fuel than if your walking around in a Corolla.
In any case, 100 calories per mile is a good working number.

Sorry i just had to point out that Nelson T is kinda dumb....
"With 3.5 mph speed I don't think you can reach 3 miles in an hour. "
... uh you do realize when you say MPH that means miles per hour right? so lol if you walked 3.5 mph you would reach 3.5 miles per hour of walking so 1 hour = 3.5 miles
lol im pretty sure you can reach 3 miles in an hour going 3.5 mph.. sorry i had to point this out

taking one hour to walk three miles isn't going to burn much at all.
I run three miles in about 20 minutes, now that burns calories.

Depends a number of factors. The weather, the terrain, your over all health condition to begin with, your pace, your clothes, your weight, etc. Some people use light weights to carry as they walk. There are just too many variables to give you an accurate answer.
