I used my Elliptical trainer for 30 mins and burnt off 300 calories.....

Is that good or bad?

That is a lot for 30 minutes. Don't keep your heart rate too high for a long time, or you could damage it. Usually 300 calories an hour is good. 600 calories an hour means you are extremely obese, or you are training like an olympic athlete.

That is very good. that is 600 calories an hour which is a good pace to burn a lot of calories without going overboard. In fact some exercises burn anywhere from 600 to 1200 calories an hour. keep it up

I can do 700, but I am probably much bigger than you are (6'7", 250#), and 700 is really 'pushing' it.

It depends on your size. If you are small, then 300 is good. If you are like 5'9" and weigh 180, then 300 is 'slacking off'.
