SANTIAGO, Chile (AP) -- A five-acre glacial lake in Chile's southern Andes has disappeared -- and scientists want to know why.

Park rangers at Bernardo O'Higgins National Park said they found a 100-feet-deep crater in late May were the lake had been in March. Several large pieces of ice that used to float atop the water also were spotted.

"The lake had simply disappeared," Juan Jose Romero, head of Chile's National Forest Service in the southernmost region of Magallanes, said Wednesday. "No one knows what happened."

A group of geologists and other experts will be sent to the area 1,250 miles southeast of Santiago in the next few days to investigate, Romero said.

One theory is the water disappeared through cracks in the lake bottom into underground fissures. But experts do not know why the cracks would have appeared because there have been no earthquakes reported
How many clues do you want!

Try another source that gives the rest of the facts.

That lake didn't even exist there 30 years ago, but was formed by earthquakes closing the very same fissure that has now been reopened, and is plainly seen RIGHT NOW, where the bottom of the lake is.

Yes, it is a very earthquake-prone area, sometimes small, sometimes large, sometimes far underground, sometimes closer to the surface.

One of the scientists told Reuters:
""The only things left were chunks of ice on the dry lake-bed and an enormous fissure," he told Reuters"

May I repeat: "AND AN ENORMOUS FISSURE".

There have been thousands of tremors in the region... and it is most likely the cause of the draining of the water... the fissures in the mountains around there could easily swallow many times that amount of water with out a Trace

UM...I think that since you got this info from a "prohecy" website that it's obviously bunk.

And I have a couple of evidence to back that up.

1.)There are obvious mis spellings and poor grammer usage.
2.) It hasnt been reported on any news channel or scientific program.

And I dont want clues. I just think your sick for your obvious eagerness to find some sort of "prophecy" for the world to end. Get some therapy.

Are you saying that China covertly fired an undetectable nuclear missile into a lake in Chile causing it too drain? That perhaps they were flexing their nuclear capability and showing us they have the ability to strike U.S soil? I will be entering my backyard bunker now, thank you for the heads up.

Lakes have been appearing and disappearing on Earth for two billion years,as aquifers and drainage patterns on land masses change, and tectonic plates move. This isn't prophesy - this is the normal natural history of the Earth.

"None knows the hour but the Father alone," remains as true today as it was 1,973 years ago.

The difference between scientists and believers, is that believers would be content to simply say "See...God did it and it's a sign" with no investigation whatsoever. Scientists will go and investigate, and they'll find out what actually happened. This is the way it's ALWAYS been. If we left the world to the religious, we'd still be living clueless in clay huts.

Honey, how is that a clue? Unusual yes, but do you realize all the upheaval the Earth has gone through over the many millennium?

I read the same report, which said that there had been much recent ground movement in the area. Why are you trying to manufacture a mystery where a perfectly logical explanation will most likely suffice?

Blessings.

When I saw the headline about the lake this morning, I just *knew* someone on here was going to bring it up as "proof" of the end times.

Thanks for not disappointing me.

I hate satellites, sorry people I used my super breath to freeze that water and then carried the ice chunk to the moon to make NASA wonder how it got there! I carved it to look like a giant rabbit so they would know God didn't put it there!
