Sounds like only two of the answerers actually live/work in Corona. While most of the "Inland Empire" is the recipient of L.A.'s smog, Corona sits at the mouth of a canyon connecting coastal Orange County to the Inland Empire. Every afternoon, there a stiff wind as the cooling coastal air is drawn in by the rising hot air in the inland deserts. At the east end of Corona, near the mouth of Santa Ana canyon, they get a 15-20mph wind most afternoons. This also helps drop the temp 10' or more, compared to surrounding areas.
My brother and sister live in Corona. Both suffer from fairly severe asthma, and neither of them has an issue with the smog there. Now pollen is a different matter - Corona nestles up against the Santa Ana mountains, so lots of weed pollen in the summer

The "Inland Empire" is usually smoggier than the Los Angeles basin for two reasons:
1. The winds normally, but not always blow from west to east so L.A."s smog gets blown that way.
2. The mountains around the Los Angeles basin "traps" the air, but the lower elevation of the Cajon pass above San Bernardino provides an funnel for the air to pass over the mountains which draws the smog along with it.
Not stated too eloquently, but I think you can get the basic concept.

It does get bad some days...but I have not really been affected by it..I work outdoors in Corona. If you are an asthma sufferer you may have a problem. The heat is a lot worse than the smog for me.

As a matter of fact, this is exactly what happens. I am an American living in a country that has socialized medicine. They use this logic all the time to pass laws. It was the logic behind the helmet laws here, since motorcycle accidents were costing so much public money, they passed laws requiring helmets. Since smoking costs so much public money, they are now arguing the right to double taxes on cigarettes to pay for the health care. If you don't see how socialized medicine will give more power to the Nanny State in dictating how you live, then you are either very slow or so blind in your communist enthusiasm that you would ignore the danger to a free country. I have watched people die here, because they were from poor families, and they just never provided the cancer treatment they needed. Watched a little girl waste away for almost a year while her parents struggled to get the public health system to do something for their Amanda. Do you want some bureaucrat deciding if your son or daughter is worth the effort and public cost to save them? I don't. I write this as one who has no health insurance, and recently owed a huge sum in hospital bills in the US. I prefer to be free than to trust the government to pay for my health care.

well i dont live in corona but i do live in riverside which is the city right next to corona. when you live in places like this you dont really notice the smog because you live here. but its bad, few places are worse. they dont normally issue warning for smog but just for the heat. it can get pretty hot here but it nothing compared to the humidity back east. back to the smog... just to give you an idea of how bad it is: when driving from las vegas to corona/ riverside, as you get closer you begin to see this big cloud of yucky brownness, this is the smog.

All "inland" areas get alot of smog. The closer to the coast, the better the air.
