Dear Asp,
Everyone has to start somewhere! You seem to need to start with basics. I think it would be easiest to purchase one of the many "Quick and Easy" cookbooks that are out there. Better homes and Gardens has one that explains cooking terminology(so you can understand the recipe!) and goes over all the basics along with many delicious meal ideas.

You are welcome to e-mail me any time with questions.
Have fun!

Well the easiest recipe I know and love is crockpot italian beef. Put a good size roast (cheap is fine, and if you refrigerate after cooking, the fat will harden on the top and you can skim it off) in the crock - season as you like, add dry italian dressing, about 1 package for 3-4 lbs, add a celery, add pepperoncini's if you like it spicy, a few cups of water (less than half way in the crock) and cook on low for 8-12 hours. It is YUMMMY beef. I serve on rolls with mozzarella cheese and extra "au jus" from the crock. There are many resources on the internet for cooking; allrecipes.com and food network. Good luck!

Cheesy Chicken Pasta.
Chicken.
Poach your chicken pieces in some stock and set aside, until cool enough to handle, and de-bone.
Pasta.
Place in salted boiling water and cook until you get the degree of cooking you like.
Penne or Elbows will do very well here.
Sauce.
Make a normal white sauce and add some grated tasty cheese, remove from heat and stir until it is smooth.

Combine everything and place in an oven proof dish, sprinkle with more cheese and bake until it is bubbling and the cheese has melted and started to brown.

Baked Fake Steak with Gravy
INGREDIENTS

* 3 pounds ground beef
* 17 saltine crackers, finely crushed
* 1/2 cup milk
* 1 1/2 teaspoons garlic powder
* 1 1/2 teaspoons onion powder
* 1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
* 1 pinch salt, or to taste
* 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
* 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
* 1 1/2 cups water
* 1 (10.75 ounce) can condensed beef and mushroom soup
* 1 (.75 ounce) packet dry brown gravy mix

DIRECTIONS

1. In a large bowl, mix together the ground beef, saltine crackers and milk. Season with garlic powder, onion powder, salt and pepper, and mix until well blended. Line a 10x15 inch jellyroll pan with waxed paper. Press the beef mixture firmly into the pan. Cover with plastic wrap, and refrigerate 8 to 10 hours, or overnight.
2. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Remove plastic wrap from meat, and rub flour over the top side of the beef. Flip out of the pan onto waxed paper, and rub flour on the other side as well. Cut into pieces (I use a pizza cutter).
3. Heat oil in a large heavy skillet over medium-high heat. Fry the meat until browned on each side, turning only once. Remove to a 9x13 inch baking dish. In a medium bowl, mix together the water, condensed soup, and gravy mix. Pour over the meat in the dish. Cover the dish loosely with aluminum foil.
4. Bake for 1 hour in the preheated oven. Serve fake steak and gravy with potatoes, rice, or noodles.

Most of being a good cook is following directions and learning some techniques. Get a good basic cookbook, I recommend a Betty Cocker one, and start with simple things like muffins or salads and work your way up.

Burger Cooking Tips and Ideas
INGREDIENTS:
ground beef
seasonings
other ingredients, see below
PREPARATION:
Adding a tablespoon or two of vegetable oil per pound to ground sirloin or round will replenish the moisture and some of the fat.
Use coarsely ground meat (rather than finely ground) for moister burgers.

Lightly mix ground meat with other ingredients
Over-mixing results in dense, heavy burgers.
Wet hands with a little water to keep the mixture from sticking when you form your patties.

Add a few tablespoons of tomato or vegetable juice to each pound of ground beef for extra flavor and juiciness.

When freezing patties, raw or cooked, separate with squares of plastic wrap.

Add minced leftover vegetables to the meat mixture.

For a smoky flavor add 1/4 cup diced cooked bacon or ham before forming into patties.

Dip patties in beaten egg, then in bread or cracker crumbs for "chicken-fried" burgers.

Try different toppings and sauces such as sautéed onions, bell peppers, sautéed mushrooms, chile peppers, guacamole, barbecue sauce, chili, cooked bacon strips, salsa.

Enjoy ur meal.
And a happy day for ur child!
