It's a 1997 so I assume the engine is broken in.... Change to it now... No reason not to. If your already running it and you want to know how long before you do an oil change, every 3000 miles just like normal. These companies advertise oil break down which is B.S., most all oil is recycled/re-refined... What you want to do is get rid of the dirt and crud from you oil, synthetic or not. Running synthetic longer than 3000 means your allowing more dirt/crud to flow through your engine for a longer time. Which will cause parts to wear. This is also why MobileONE pulled there 7000 mile engine garranty... Don't risk longer than 3000.

I dont understand your question fully, so i'll answer a few different ways.
You dont need to do any special preperation to switch from the oil you're currently using to pennzoil platinum, just pour the old stuff out and the new stuff in.
That oil is definetly good for at least 7500 miles, depending on how you drive. I'd change it every 7500 miles or 1 year.
Pennzoil platinum is an excellent oil, but dont stockpile it just yet. Advance auto parts has a deal going, buy one get one free, for pennzoil platinum that they release about 4 times a year. So you can find it there for $3 a bottle, next time they have the sale.
They will also sell quaker state synthetic for the same price, the pennzoil is better.

There are a couple of different ways I've seen done. One is to replace the oil between 5 to 6 thousand miles or every 6 months. Also replace the filter too with every oil change.
A second method I've seen is to replace the filter every 3 thousand miles and add a quart of oil. Then change the oil completely every 25 thousand miles. The friend of mine that did this had a S-10 truck with 220 thousand miles on it, and the engine sounded like a new one. So this method must work.
Myself, I use the first method. good luck

The first time you switch to synthetic oil, it starts to clean the sludge build-up in the engine, so it gets dirty quickly. Oil manufactures recommend the first oil change relatively quickly. I have a 2000 Camry, after a month of switching to synthetic, the oil dipstick was noticeably cleaner, but the oil was not that dirty. So, I did my first oil change after switching to synthetic at the Toyota recommended interval of 5000 mile/4 months. The drained oil was less dirty than the last time. So next time onwards I change oil at the 7500 mile/6 month interval.
I used Castrol. Both Castrol and Penzoil recommends to follow the original vehicle oil change schedule.

It says on the bottle when Penzoil recommends the changes. Depending on your type of driving, these recommendations change and should be adjusted accordingly. There really is no need to use synthetic oil in a ten year old car. It essentially is a waste of money and since synthetic oil molecules are smaller, they tend to show more leaks than real oil anyway. In your case, you should use regular motor oil and change it as recommended by your manufacurer.

Is there already a full synthetic in it or are you asking when is is ok to start using it? If it is already being used you can go up to six months between changes and you don't have to change all of it only half and atleast the filter to. If you are wanting to start using it make sure you don't have and oil leak or you will find that you go through oil alot faster

Just do it every 6000 km's and you'll be good and don't fall for the air filer replacement scam.
