i'm 16 and have thin hair. i have always for years being tieing my hair up in a tight ponytail. a few days ago i noticed i was developeing a bald patch. do u think that has got to do with tieing my hair in the tight ponytail?

also yesterday i washed my hair, my mam cut the ends cos they were uneven. when i dryed it, it felt lovely and full. i then was out in the wind a few times for a few seconds. when i came home my hair felt and looks alot thiner dan normal.

do u think it has something to do with the bald patch or has the wind just taken the volume out?

will the lost hair grow back. i always use this shampoo for volume that made my hair a small bit thicker. will that kind of shampoo help??

is your hair pretty long? i had long hair and my hair would come out by the hand fulls esp. when i was in the shower. i got my hair cut pretty short about 2 years back (my hair only goes down to my chin...pretty short!) and i havent had that problem since. it is very easy for long hair to become unhealthy. yes the whole ponytail thing...hmm...i think if you put it in a ponytail alot it would make your hair weak in the spot of the hair tie. yes that could be a reason. also, if you dye your hair alot it will definately start to fall out.

my suggestion, if your hair is really long, cut it!

I think maybe you might want to go to the doctor and see why your hair is balding so young.. It could be a medical condition..
Other than that there are ways you can cut your hair to make it thicker.. I had it done to my hair.. My new hair stylist did it, and my old hair stylist didnt know how, so you have to find the right hair stylist..
also any shampoos and conditioners that you by from a store, like walmart or whatever is bad for your hair, and it actually weighs your hair down making it look thinner..
If you can afford it I would buy Biolage Hydra therapie or something like that from a hair salon..
They also have a shampoo at the hair salon that will thicken your hair and it really does work.. I know someone who uses it.. I dont know what it is called though..
These things run about 15 dollars a bottle... but you only have to use a little tiny bit and it will last alot longer then the cheap bottles at walmart and such..
Good Luck!

Just like men, women can suffer from baldness. It is called Alopecia.

There can be diseases that cause this. It is possible that it is caused by the ponytail, but not necessarily so. Also, it could just be due to a poor diet.

You may want to talk to your doctor at your next annual appointment. And if you start to notice a lot of hair on your brush (way more than normal) and the bald spot gets bigger, you may want to see your diet.

Look up testostrones on the webb. Yes, the poneytale does not help.I know because Iam 40yrs.now and It has gave me terrible wrinkles. Also if you wear a capp alot I know it doesnt help either. I heard that rogaine had a new foam stuff out on the market that you could try.It is always good to switch out on the shampoos you use.

the tight pony tails are not a good idea, the hair you've lost will likely grow back but you need to eat a healthy diet rich in calcium to encourage growth, eat non fat yogurt and drink low fat milk.
the wind puts fine particles of dirt and dust in your hair, that is why it flattens out and looks limp.
Use a very gentle shampoo, like johnson's baby shampoo, and use a detangler after so you aren't pulling and yanking at your hair while it is wet, Johnson and Johnson also makes a spray detangler, you will find it near the baby shampoo.
Volumizers you find in adult shampoos and conditioners actually attract dirt and dust, I don't recommend them.

I would have your parents take you to your doctor asap. They could recomend a specialist to check out what the deal is. And, not to be funny but lose the pony tail and get a new hair cut. Pony tails are not cool man. Okay, best of luck w/ your Dr. man. I hope you are okay.
