I have often come across complaints of short lamp life in projection LCD displays, in fact it was reported that Panasonic projection Lcds had a major issue with lamps burnin out in less that a year. My question is does the same problem occur even in the normal size Lcds (eg) 32 inches and 40 inches displays.

I think you may be talking apples and oranges here. Projection LCD displays use incandescent type lamps to project the image. The 32 and 40 inch displays use fluorescent lamps. Fluorescent lamps have a much longer life span.
