The music idea sounds fine. I'm sure you do want a professional photographer for the wedding. If you have a family member or friend that you can trust to take important pictures like when you cut the cake, then you could have disposable cameras sitting on the tables for the guests to use. If you aren't sure you are going to get good pictures of cutting the cake, etc. then have the professional come for those pictures and then let him/her leave.

It is not a stupid idea, but be sure the computer and speakers are in good working order. Music is one of the most important parts of the reception. That and the food are the most talked about things. I didn't have a photographer for my wedding either. My brother and father-in-law, both ametuer photographers took care of all the photos (only regret is that there aren't many good photos of the ceremony because they were in it and young cousins took those pictures). If you don't have someone who can do this for you, the disposable cameras are a great way to go. You can even put a note on the back of each one with a list of 10 pictures you would like taken with the camera and the rest the guests can have free reign. For example....1. bride with aunt betsy 2. charlie and sue etc etc. etc. This also forces people to mingle because they have to find the people they are supposed to be taking the pictures of. It will also help cut down on all the silly pictures you could really do without.

The music is totally fine, there is no rule for you to have to have a dj or a band.
The picture idea is fine too. Not all weddings should be the same, however; you can hire a photographer for a couple of hours and not through out the whole wedding. My friend actually got a photographer that charged $500 for the entire night but the bride and groom had to print their own pictures themselves, which saved them a lot of money. They went to wolf camera and ordered the MATT finish which made the pictures look very nice. But if you don't want to do this either there's nothing wrong with guests taking the own pictures. We all know how expensive weddings are and if you feel this a good way of staying in your budget then go for it.
congrats!

Computer is fine. Definitely don't utilize friends/relatives (unless it is teens that would normally be bored) that would like to be part of the ceremony. You have time so be creative and search your local area for colleges and trade schools that have classes on broadcasting and photography. Talk to all instructors on your situation - - majority instructors are willing to help you get students for this live DJ 'broadcast' for extra credit and/or experience. Have at least 2 for DJ & at least 2 for photography. Regarding the DJs, have a poll on who did the best by your guests for their instructor. As for the photography, the instructor may help review for their grade.
Although, you may also give $ such as $25 to the best voted DJ or photos plus free food. See what instructors say first BEFORE you even suggest money. If you do a poll by your guests on the best, the winner gets better grade but . . have a trophy made for the winner of each category. I live in a city of 140,000 and there are two places that makes trophies & personalize them too - - I was VERY surprised on how affordable a created trophy can be.
You would be surprised the 'hams' (especially high school kids) with a microphone AND YOUR music.
Good luck.

Pictures: The photos of the ceremony are what really count. Make sure those are quality. As for the ones at the reception, why not ask a friend or relative to take some candid shots for you. That might be even cheaper than the "camera on the table idea".
DJ: Again, do the computer systemt thing and see if a friend or relative can man the station for you to make sure it goes smoothly.

You might want to find out how much difference in the fee there would be to have the photographer go to the reception venue to take pics of the cake. If it is going to be too much then see if there is someone you know who can take good pictures of the cake and the two of you cutting it etc. Then just have the disposable camers on the tables for guests to take pictures at the reception. Definitely you should use the computer to play the music since its available and they have built in speakers. Congrats on your marriage.

I think that would work out great. Just remember... You are going to want to ask a friend or family member to be in charge of the music. I would also go buy some of those wedding throw away cameras, and set them on the tables. Let the guests take pictures of one another, and you will get fun pictures of things you didnt even know were happening.

Yes play your own music have a friend do a little introduction to introduce the new bride and groom but then let the cd's play.. As for Photos be careful about that you may not get ones that you want and may end up with a bunch of fuzzy photos.. I would say have a family member take some photos of the things that you know that you want 1st dance, parents things like that then through the night as well. Also you and hubby can take some of family and friends dancing this way they are the moments that are special to you.

That sounds fine. Most wedding DJ's are lame anyway. With this, you can make up your own mix CD, and you could even make extras to give as reception gifts. With the guests-as-photographers, you can expect some odd photos, but with all the volume of pictures taken, you will be bound to get plenty of good shots.

I've been to a wedding where they did this with the music system. It was NOT a good thing. Everyone who would have been dancing was crowding around the computer. People would just randomly change songs in the middle. Folks picked out horrible songs to play. I think a total of five couples danced. The speaker sound wasn't very good either.
