the meal doesn't have to be big it just has to provide the proper nutrients.
the main function of post workout supplementation is to start the recovery process after exercise. resistance training is extremely catabolic by nature as the body has a negative protein balance after exercise. when proteins or amino acids (BCAA's) are ingested after exercise there is a very positive response from the endocine system as muscle protein synthesis is elevated and fatty acid metabolization is increased. the efffects of the catabolic hormone cortisol is also blunted as insulin levels increases as the result of the increase in blood concentration levels of various amino acids.
you want a very rapidly digested source of protein after weight training. this is the best time to utilize whey protein, soy protein isolates or branched chain amino acid pills/powders. for most males 20 grams of protein is sufficent for recovery and women 10 grams. it is also good to have some carbs after training as this will also help facilitate a faster recovery and help to replenish muscle glycogen stores. depending on how long you are awake after the post workou shake, etc. another low cal high protein meal/snack would be optimum before bed, something like low fat cottage cheese an hour after the shake. cottage cheese is high in L-Gluatimine which is a very anti-catabolic amino acid.

IT really does not have to be a big meal, but you do want to eat something that will keep your metabolism raised.
What you are eating is fine.
People all to often think that losing weight means working out more and eating less - NOT True, to a point. Sure it helps, but if you fail to eat enough or only eat very little, then your body has not choice but to take the nutrients it needs from other places on your body - starting with you muscles...not from the extra fat you have.
Remember, muscle replaces fat in the body and the only way to make that happen is if your muscles have enough nutrients to grow. So, feel free to eat...but make sure you eat right.
So long as you replace the calories you burn while working out, then your body will have a better chance of work in harmony with itself.
Finally, try not eat and then go to sleep. That is not good for you at all! Your body will be up 1/2 the night trying to digest what you ate and you will not have received the rest your body needs to rebuild itself properly.

I pretty much have the same workout as you. I eat protein only after my workout. Either by a shake, or usually a piece of fish or meat. Protein helps your muscles to recover after a workout and help to keep you full for a longer period of time. Chase it with a bottle of water! That should last you until your next meal. Hope this helps! Good Luck!

You shouldn't eat a big meal after working out - that kinda defeats the whole purpose!
If you don't eat, your body will go into starvation mode and hoarde calories and not burn anything.
The salad and protein shake is fine...
