Yes this is safe in most cases. The times it wouldnt be safe is if the container was to actually melt into your food, LOL.

The idea that heated plastic can release dioxins into your food and cause cancer has been proven false.
Dioxins are used in making plastic food containers, true. To get them back OUT of the plastic however would require you to heat the plastic to well over 2000 degrees Fahrenheit. And if you are cooking in your microwave at anything close to that I suggest you unplug that thing and then RUN!

Yes, most tupperwear is microwave safe. It should say something on the bottom of the container. Also be sure to not close the lid completely, especialy if u plan to cook and not just heat something, or else pressure will build up in the container and the lid will blow making a mess of things.

Most plastic containers say if they are microwave safe or not. It really depends on what you are going to heat in it. Be sure not to keep a container that isn't microwave safe in there for too long. It will melt!

When plastics are listed as "microwave safe" it just means that the plastic will not melt in the microwave.

My nutritionist (an MD as well as a PhD) said that ideally food should not be cooked in a microwave, but that if one must use a microwave in food preparation, then the food should always be heated in glass, not plastic. (apparently microwaving plastic releases toxic chemicals into the food.)

Apparently not. Particularly if the food in the container has a high fat content. I read today - and to be honest, I don't know what the risk factor is - that harmful dioxins are released from plastics used in microwave ovens. It is better to transfer the food into a glass container, such as pyrex, and microwave that instead.
