I have a lovely, well-behaved Calico female who is about 6 years old. She uses the litterbox, she doesn't like to go outside, and she jumps into my lap all the time (on her terms, of course!). The only thing she does that drives me nuts is her desperation to get into the bathroom - even when I'm not in there! When I moved her to my apartment a few weeks ago, she was very anxious so I took the desperation as a part of that anxiety. Now she starts meowing at the bathroom door (I keep it closed) in the middle of the night, and worse, she starts shredding the carpet in front of the door. I rent - I can't have her wrecking the carpet! I let her in there sometimes during the day to see what she wants, but she gets bored quickly and leaves. Help!

My cats do that, and it always seems to be for one of three reasons:

1) they go on patrol and just want to make sure the room's clear (they'll do a quick walk through)

2) I forgot to change their water and they want a fresh drink (they'll jump in the tub or try to get in the sink or the toilet)

3) They're sick and like the cool, quiet spot between the toilet and the wall (they'll curl up and sleep just out of sight from the hallway).

I've noticed this behavior in 4 different cats, males and females. For the most part, it's not a big deal if they go in the bathroom, but if they're trying to hang out or drink water out of the sink, that's a bad habit for them to get into. If your kitty seems to fall under option #2, I recommend getting her the filtered water fountain (WalMart and Target sell it). It was cheap, and it flows cool, filtered water. You can change the water less often and they lost interest in the sink water in the bathroom.

Hope that helps!

Our cat likes to go into the bathroom right after someone gets out of the shower so she can lap all the water up...strange lol...your cat may have a similar reason.
I would suggest just leaving the door open, unless there's something in there that is a hazard to her. If it is always accessible to her, she will always get bored and therefore not go in.

If this is not an option, there is spray that you can spray in any area/surface and it will keep your cat away. The problem, though, is that it is much less likely to work on young kittens (it doesn't work at all on my 1-year-old). But you can try it and see if it works!

My cat also scratches up the carpet...we try to keep her nails trimmed to lower the damage. Other than that, we are trying to train her out of it...we rent too and our carpet is destroyed!

If she's not drinking or eating much or at all, you need to somehow get her to the vet much sooner. Monday would be too long to wait if she's getting dehydrated. One of ours became lethargic yesterday, same to worse today, and supposedly may have pancreatic and whatever other problems are going on with him. I hope your cats problem is a lot less severe, but you don't want to let it go and risk it getting worse or becoming irreversible. If it's an issue of time, try to find someone willing to take her for you or perhaps you can drop her off in the morning. If the vet appointment isn't until Monday, let them know she's worsening and needs emergency care, or run her into an animal hospital that take emergencies.

My cat is obsessed with the bathroom, because he likes to drink from the toilet and the bathtub faucet when it drips. He will sit in the bathtub and meow adamantly until I go in, turn the water on, and then turn it off so it drips a bit. It's pretty annoying but cats sometimes can't be trained like dogs. Maybe you should just keep the door open.

I also once had a cat that would paw at my bedroom door at night and tore up the carpet like yours. I put a rug down for her to scratch at instead and it worked quite well.

It sounds like your cat is doing this because she doesn't like closed doors, as crazy as that might sound. I know that neither of my cats like being locked out of a room and will meow at the closed door until I give in and open it. Chances are if you leave it open she won't go in there much, she just likes to know it is open.

My cat does the same thing but only because she wants the water from the sink and toilet. I suggest you leave the door open but make sure there is nothing dangerous that she could get into

Why keep the door closed? Our bathroom door is always open (except, of course, when privacy is desired in the room) to the pets so they can come and go as they please. When I lived by myself in my old apartment, I'd always emerge from the shower to see kitty paws coming under the door...she always wants to be where I am.

Sound to me like she is looking for cool fresh water. try changing where her water dish is. Maybe it's getting warm, and she needs it cooler.I'd leave the bathroom door open, let her go in.What can she hurt? Just make sure you don't keep any of that chemical in the toilet tank and she'll be fine.

my cat does the same thing but he wants to drink out of the toilet. so i just leave the door open and the lid to the toilet down. he can go in there and see for himself that the lid is down. i suggest leaving your bathroom door open at night so that she can look around. as long as there is nothing that can harm her in the bathroom. you will be able to sleep and her curiosity will fade.

there might be a smell or sound that is intriguing her, let her in there when no one is around by leaving the door open a few hours out of the day.

she will either lead you to why she wants in or loose interest herself and that will be the end of that.
