hey dears,

I was wondering a lot about your porpuse in life and how much not fair it is...

what I mean is that in your case..what's the good for being or achieving to be the best in everything in your self like in your morals or performance...??!

i don't think that if I personally had your same believes ...i would achieve to be a good person ...cause it's useless somehow...!
for example..if I had a twin sis that is really bad and doesn't think for what she is doing ..and in the other hand ..there's me who is trying to be good and not to go to the same bad road...though my sis is always the winner and she lies and do many things to make me feel and look like im the bad one in other ppl eyes like my family members...

so nothing really stopped me from being the same person as my sis but god...cause i feared god and I knew that i would have the reward from him or it would be not fair at all...!

so what's the good for being or achieving to be the best in everything for you?

I'm a good person because I have faith in humanity. It's kind of like Pay it Forward, do good things for people, hopefully they'll good things for others.

I'm a good person because my conscience would get the better of me if I did otherwise.

I make the most out of my life because I can, because it's my life, and I want to make the most out of it.

You get what I mean?

Not believing that this life is a test or a journey makes my life even more precious... I do good because I feel good and my life enriches with it... I am doing good thing not just because super mega giga power (in a parental figure) tells me to do but because I am doing it so that I feel a better person... And knowing that I am nor expecting something in return (like happy life in eternity) make the good things that I do even more valuable for me...

Okay, you have three separate things: (1) Being ethical; (2) Having a goal and working toward it; (3) Finding meaning in life.

Now that I've enumerated those. In the case of being ethical, I think it's just a common sense thing for most people -- you do good for good's sake, not to appease someone in the sky who judges you.

In the case of having a goal and working toward it, you do that because it makes your life more rewarding and happy.

In the third case, you find meaning in what excites you, in your passion.

So your saying without some book to guide you, you would become immoral well that just sounds dumb, don't you have it within you to know right from wrong and how to live a moral life through your own will, rather than through fear of your own god as you put it, if your trying to make Christians look more moral than Atheists I think you just failed.

Congrats to everyone who got all that in the first reading.

Life is for living. It is to enjoy, to have kids, to do what you can to ensure you leave the Earth a little better than how you found it, make music, art, write a great novel. Make wonderful friends.

I find it fascinating that Theists cannot seem to do that. They basically live their lives hoping and waiting for death, dreaming about living on a cloud playing a harp. Miserable, guilt fueled, delusional, people.

Look at social animals in nature. They behave a certain way because it is better for the whole, not the individual.

Now we have intelligence and that sets us apart from mere animals, but it doesn't change the fact that behaving a certain way is better for all of us. With our intelligence, we are able to understand why we should behave for the good of society.

Personally, I believe that religion dumbs down that process, a lot like the way we treat children.

"Why shouldn't I kill?"
"Because God said so."

OR

"Why shouldn't I kill?"
"Because it undermines our society by fostering distrust and ultimately can split us into smaller and smaller units that cannot survive or prosper on their own."

I have a purpose, it's just not given by God. I want to live life to its fullest and pass that on to my progeny.

What is the point of life?

To live, to perpetuate our species, and hopefully make it better for the next generation.

I find your question very odd. Please tell me what is the purpose (your purpose) in heaven? I hear Christians talk all the time about how useless life is without an afterlife. What is your purpose in an afterlife. Seems to me there isn't any. It just is something to avoid the thought of an end.

The point is that we didn't choose to be here, but we *are* here, so we might as well make the most of it. Why not live an enjoyable, fulfilling life instead of a boring disappointing one, even if at the end of it you simply cease to exist? Indeed, the fact that this life is the only one we will ever have makes it all the more precious, and gives us all the more reason to make the most of it.

So if you weren't living your life for an imaginary being, you wouldn't even bother?
Wow, is that ever pathetic. The only reason you do anything good is to suck up to "god" or out of fear of retribution in some afterlife.

You probably would act *differently* if you weren't just - according to you - being good to get your reward from God. But would you actually be bad - nasty to other people?

If you're sane, you would probably be a nice person, because being nice gives a person pleasure. If you DON'T get pleasure out of being nice to others, then you're a bit weird, and probably a little dangerous.
