Faith is one of those words (like "believe" or "God" or "truth") that I'm sure you know what it means. I'm also absolutely positive that you don't know what it means. It's a semantic null. It's not like the word "rock," where you could reasonably point it out to a child and go "There it is." It is both meaningful and meaningless. I will try and define it anyways, since it's pointless to go on about faith unless you know what I think I mean by the word.
It should be simple to define, right? Here's my first stab at it: Faith is what you have when you don't care about the evidence.
Immediately, I bet you can see the problem here. What about all those people who say they have evidence to bolster their faith? Are they all insane, or deluded? Okay, I'll grant that some people think they have evidence for their faith.
So we'll try faith, definition two:
Faith is what you have when it doesn't matter if you have evidence or not.

Belief is the attitude we have, roughly, whenever we take something to be the case or regard it as true.
Many of the things we believe, in the relevant sense, are quite mundane: that we have heads, that it's the 21st century, that a coffee mug is on the desk.

In many contexts the two can be used interchangeably, but the word faith denotes a deeper level of commitment. For example when Jesus healed people He commonly said things like "Go thy way, thy faith has saved you." Indicating that the faith of the person being healed was a necessary component of the healing miracle. It's an unshakable confidence that Christ has the ability to heal. He wouldn't have said "Go thy way thy belief has saved you."

belief~ 1) a state or habit of mind in which confidence is placed in some person or thing 2) conviction of the truth of some statement or reality of some being or phenomenon 3)
a tenet or body of tenets held to be true by a group.

faith~ 1) firm belief in something for which there is no proof 2) allegiance to duty or a person 3) sincerity of ones intentions

Most Western religions ask one to take a 'leap of faith' to belief. Look before you leap.

belief is related with thinking that it may be true weather in the past or future. it is releted with some theories or some rules or some incidents ie something which is decided by so many and could be produced in the form of a conclusion in front of the so many like science invention , or some historical event,..................................

faith is no doubt is related with teh heart or feelings . i have faith in Lord that He will take care of me.

it is beyond our thoughts. it is simply the feeling of the heart. i have full faith in you that you will never speak lie . it is always related with the divine quality or feeling. if you understand feeling i think this faith world could be understood.

simple.

I have faith in something meaning there isn't necessarily proof of it.

i believe something it's usually based on facts.

i believe i'll have another piece of lasagna...which i will!

i have faith that jesus rose from the dead etc....which he did but can i prove it or was i there to witness it? nope.

actually i think the shroud of turin proves it but that's another discussion.
