We just recently bought a Vizio 47' LCD HDTV that has a intergrated NTSC/ATSC/ QAM Tuner in it. This allows us to get the HD channels that are available to us for free in our complex. However, our tuner is not locating any digital channels. Our network tech came in with a external QAM tuner and the TV was able to find the channels right away. We don't want to go and spend $150 on this external tuner, especially since the TV is "supposed" to have one built in, but we don't know what to do. I was reading the specs for the TV and came across something that made me think that there is supposed to be a certain cord plugged into the back in order for the tuner to work....... I need help, any advice would be useful. We love this TV and don't want to send it back.

We will eventually be getting an HDTV receiver box, but we can't right now until our network provider in our complex works out some deal with the cable company.... long story/////

we currently have digtal cable, but not HD. Our complex network has made HD channels available to us for free without needed a HD box. All you are supposed to need is a QAM tuner.

What "certain cord" do you think you need? All you should need is the raw cable going into your TV's DTV cable input. Make sure you have told the TV you have cable in the setup screens, and run a channel search.

If the TV is not finding any digital signals, the QAM tuner is probably defective. Exchange it while your warranty is still in effect.

QAM is a modulation scheme used by cable companies to send digital information using RF frequencies. Possible problems may be that your QAM tuner might not be able to demodulate your cable companies QAM scheme. There are 2 different qams that i know of qam 64 and qam 256. Another possible problem might be in the menue of the tv try to find a function on the menu screen that tells the tv to search for qam signals and not ATSC. As far as cords go you'll need a coaxial RF cable screwed into the RF in or CABLE in port on your tv to get qam signals.
You could also get your HD programming off the air with an antenna depending how far you are from the tv station and if its broadcasting digital signals. Just remember all digital signals are not HD. Check your tv guide to see when the broadcasts are.

Are you sure your TV has a Digital Clear-QAM tuner?
Some Vizio TVs have ONLY ATSC/analog QAM Tuners, so check the TV specs carefully.

Also, when you scan new channels, make sure you scan in Cable mode and not in Antenna mode

First, LCDs have soft plastic screens. They are easily scratched and a variety of chemicals will damage them. Some also have special coatings on the screen that are easily damaged Use only a very soft cloth on them-no paper towels. Second-no Windex or other cleaners. Most manufacturers recommend either a soft dry cloth or one that is slightly moistened with water. Read your manual. If you use anything except what they recommend, kiss your warranty goodbye. The other poster's alcohol recommendation is generally valid, but I wouldn't use it except in the case of something out of the ordinary getting onto your screen.
