What does an upside-down pentagram really mean? I know the common idea is that it's a satanic symbol, but a pentagram means that it relates to paganism and pagans don't believe in Satan. (Satanism is really an upside-down cross). If you put a normal religious symbol upside down it means that it's anti that. So, what would be the religion that's the opposite of a pagan?

As the pentagram is used to invoke energy, inverted is used to banish energy. Think of it like the signs on the door...enter & exit!
Although it has been adapted by "Satanists", it is a symbol of the horned God, and comes from the same traditions as the upright one.
Although much of our beliefs are centered around balance, good & evil are not really part of it. When you factor in the Laws of the Universe, we all want and try to do the right thing. We don't dwell on our mistakes because it all comes back to us sooner or later.
The Horned God is mearly a symbol of the male essence. The hunter, provider, protector. He has been with us much longer than the Bible, which in where Satanism derived from.

Religious opposite of Pagan? That would be Judeo-Christian-Muslim then.

There are different types of Pagans though.

The pentagram means different things to different people so you'd have to wait for more answers.

For me, it just shows an upside down pentagram and they can be quite pretty. Makes a change from wearing an upside down cross......

Inverted Pentagram

Satanists do use the symbol, but they generally use it with the symbol of Baphomet imposed upon the top, which makes the two symbols match. The three points of the star facing downward can also symbolize the rejection of the Christian Trinity.

When it comes to Wicca, however, the symbology is different.
In some Wiccan initiationatory traditons, the upside-down Pentagram denotes a person in the Second Degree. The symbology of the inverted Pentagram relates to many different things within the different Second Degree traditions, but generally it means the decent of the spirit into matter, or the need for humans to be connected with our surroundings and the world we live in.

I think that inverting a religious symbol to make it anti-that-religion only applies to Christianity. I don't know how turning any other religious symbol upside-down would make it anti.

The inverted pentagram represents power entering to your crown Chakra. The upside down cross is what St. Paul was crucified on. He didn't feel right to die the same way Jesus did. NOTE: this is according to the bible. The cross is from satanism. The inquisition burned most satanist books and turned Satan into the evil figure in the bible. Also each point on both pentagrams designate each of the five elements (fire, water, air, earth, spirit) and do not be fooled by Anton LeVay's religion as true satanism. Anton LeVay is smart but not true.

The point-down symbol is also used in some Wiccan trads for their second degree members. And at one time, a pentagram with the point up was a symbol in the Christian church signifying the five wounds of Christ. This symbol has had many meanings at different times.

Many pagans don't use the pentagram--whether it is point up or point down. The pentagram has no personal meaning for me and I am definitely polytheistic. The four or six-spoked wheel has much more meaning for me.

I think the superstition is that the two symmetric upward points of an upside down pentagram are horns of the devil. If I had to bet, I would bet this got started in the middle ages when the Church was working furiously to demonize any Pagan symbolism they didn't integrate.

the Pentagram among Satanists (NOT devil worshipers, two entirely different groups, take into consideration Satanists don't sacrifice - devil worshipers do, and thats only one difference) symbolizes the direction of a collectives energy....for example, the Pentacle (pointing up) symbolizes taking in energy from all other points and directing it away from the earth....vice versa, the Pentagram takes in energy from all other points, and directs it towards the earth. A Pentagram or Pentacle should not be encircled, as the circle would trap the energy, thus making it useless, nor would it be able to absorb energy. And the actual Satanic symbol is the Baphomet, the "Satanic cross" is a devil worshiper's sign. To an extent, a Satanist is a Pagan, as a Satanist (theistic, not to be confused with atheistic satanists) believes in entire heirarchies of "demons" or "gods" whichever you prefer. and for the record, "demon" does not mean "evil" but rather "one of great wisdom", just so you don't misunderstand me, as well as the theistic Satanist believes in a pre-christian context of Satan....

pentagrams mean many things
they are used in satanism, an paganism an many other forms of occult
even in christianity they can be used to resemble the wounds of jesus so its really hard to determine their true meaning
and an inverted cross is used in christianity also because of st. peter being cruxified upside down
