Do they use your cumulative GPA or how you did each semester?

If you are referring to honors at graduation (*** laude, magna *** laude, or summa *** laude), it is your cumulative GPA which counts. There are also graduates of the Honors Program, which requires that you were admitted to the university as an Honors student and pursued a particular curriculum throughout your education.
