On the news last night it said that China has actually just over taken America! Scary stuff!

The USA still emits more carbon dioxide per person than any other country. China has the largest population of 1,300 million, and has coal to burn.
Unfortunately, western companies face embargo when they try to sell high-tech equipment to China and China has to resort to coal technology. Hopefully their own nuclear programme develop to enable them to use non-polluting nuclear fuel. They are also trying to build dams to generate electricity but can't build them fast enough.

The Guardian reports that it is indeed China. However, we must remember that all the MEDC's at the moment went through a phase of industralisation where loads of pollution was caused. Of course they should be regulated, but their not the only ones.

Its usually countries that have the highest population and pollution so top of the list are the USA, China, Japan and India.

Yes China has finally edged out over the US. The have gone nuts with coal fired power plants and autos. And they have no regulations whatsoever.
