Do you think it's better to move on to the other side without warning, or to be told ahead of time.........so you have time to think about it?

My maternal grandmother's death in 1985 was the resulf of a sudden heart attack, with no time to think about the transition, and I believe her passing was so much more merciful than my mother's end in a hospice in 2005, about which I still have nightmares 2 years afterwards.

About 17 months ago the Dr. told me I had to have a 7 way bypass on my heart.
I flatly refused till my wife started crying, now I accept most any type med. problem with a open mind.

If it were a terminal, totally uncurable diagnosis...I honestly don't know how I would handle it. I handled it poorly enough when my doc told me I had melanoma and it was really a very minor case...just left me with an ugly 2" scar on my forearm. But now I dread going to the dermatologist and get so nervous every time because this is something that can come back and definitely not be so nice next time and once it's to a certain stage a person is pretty much doomed.

The question is somewhat vague. Without details I am led to believe that this is an opinion question. I am a firm believer in not accepting everything a physician says as the word of God incarnate. At best they can give you an educated guess hopefully with a bit of experience. It has been proven that people who are given terminal diagnoses by their physicians very often die on or near the exact date their doctor told them. It has also been proven that the people who overcome terrible diagnoses are never "good little patients". They get second opinions. They question. They sometimes blatantly ignore their physicians advice and take risks by putting their health into their own hands. This may or may not have answered the question but in any case good luck and blessings to you, especially if you are dealing with a health crisis.

I cried, and said, well, if this is the way thing are then let's do what we have to do to fix it, and get it overwith as quickly as possible.
