Bring non-perishables for lunch. I rarely put anything in the fridge anyhow, my co-workers wouldn't eat it but I'm afraid some of the life forms growing in there might.
(yes, ew is right)

Syrup of ipecac is a nice addition to any stolen lunch. When the vomiting starts you will have found your lunch thief. Either that or you can bring an inedible lunch laced with tons of hot sauce every day for a couple of weeks. Ex-lax brownies anyone?

I never had a problem with food being stolen, but somehow my desk is always a magnet for "accidental" theft.
On my stapler, tape dispenser, pens, scissors, etc. I put a big label on them saying "STOLEN FROM JULIE". Now people rather sheepishly return stuff they take off of my desk.
Maybe you could put your lunch in a bag that says something similar - you could even mark your bags of chips, baggie, etc. with a sharpie with same message.
Gotta shame them into not doing it while still keeping a sense of humor! Julie

Eat non-perishable food. For example I typically eat almonds and dried cranberries for lunch - portable, good tasting and very nutritious. I'm a cyclist and a sandwich would get squished in my bag. There are lots and lots of good non-perishable food options.

Bring your lunch in an insulated bag designed to keep foods cool. Hide it under your desk so no one will see it.

prepare something that looks good on the outside, but is totally nasty on the inside - a sandwich with hair, cupcake frosted with ex-lax - and leave in the fridge with your name on it in big letters. won't take long to break someone from their ugly food-napping habits

Pretty much like I always have. People will do childish things like that. You must guard your goodies.
