It depends on the kind of adoption you wish to pursue. If you want to adopt here in the United States, from the foster care system, they are very flexible about their guidelines for adoptive parents. As long as you can demonstrate that you have enough income to support a child reasonably well, and that you can provide a loving home, I would guess that DCF would work to place a child with you.

But if you were intending to adopt a baby from overseas, some countries have policies regarding the parents' ages and health. For example, China only permits couples age 50 and under to adopt, and you must be in good health.

It depends on the adoption situation. The adoption agencies have specific requirements. Private adoptions regulations will vary, too. The state foster care system may be more flexible when it comes to placing children in homes for adoptions.

It truly depends on what type of adoption you want and what kind of disability you have. If you can not physically care for a child or financhially care for a child you will not be allowed to adopt. However you may be able to foster to adopt with children who are more needy.

some very good friends of mine adopted a baby, her husband is disabled and on social security and they were still able to adopt!

so i think as long as you can prove you have a safe home and means to support a child you should be okay!

I'm pretty sure there are some strict guidelines in place regarding adoption that are meant to protect the children.

I've even heard that your weight is a factor and that if you are obese, you will be unable to adopt.

Also, not 100% but the rules may vary between cities/states

Interesting question Jed, I have the same one. I would like to adopt, but I am on SSI and disability. I will have to look into it.

Are you financially and physically able to take care of a child? If so, then there shouldn't be any problem.
