I am in the process of opening a pagan shop with my husband and we both want to sell books in there but we are having a hard time finding a wholsaler. We were wondering if maybe would be able to sell used books in there? I know we can, but is that a good idea? If you were shopping for books would you consider buying a used book? Blessed Be!

It's funny, the place I'll probably go have coffee tonight there's a used bookshop and a very openminded religious/philosophical bookstore. The used bookstore has a religious section but the religious bookstore does not sell used books.

Personally, I would buy used. Oh, we also USED to have a place called A Clean Well Lighted Place For Books that mixed used and new inventory on the shelves. They didn't get enough business so they closed the store in this part of town.

I buy used books if they're in good shape and are the specific books I'm looking for. If I no longer want a book, I don't sell it. I give it away. Either to a coven library or to a local store. We had a local store who had a nice cozy reading room off their store that they stocked with used books and comfy chairs. People would come in and browse the used books and read a while and if they really liked it they'd buy it new from the store. That way their new books wouldn't get messed up and those who perhaps couldn't afford a new book could read one anyway. It was mostly for those who chose to be solitary since many of our covens have libraries for their members.

In the store that i go to, they have not only new, but used books. And once you are finished with a book or it doesn't suit your needs or tastes, you can always return it for 25% of the price you paid.
I think its a good idea!
Have you tried One Spirit as a wholesale source? I am not sure if they would do that, but its worth a try!

Good Luck on your venture!

My favorite bookstore sells used and new books. If they don't stink of mildew or mold, I will buy a used book. I think she has to buy books individually in many cases--the new ones that is. The used ones she buys from her customers. I always take the book back when I am through with it too.

I buy used books all the time. Some books are out of print and that's the only way to find them.

Absolutely!!!! I make all my book purchases through Amazon used books. I spend hours at book stores looking at everything but when I'm ready to buy, I buy used. We also have a very large used book store in our area that we frequent. Good Luck.

I'd rather buy a good used book than a terrible new one.

I buy used books frequently. It's the best thing to do when your budget is tight.

One of my favorite bookstores is a used book shop. You can bring your old books in, and get a credit toward a "new" book...mmmmmmm
