Personally I think that if they refuse to teach about God and what Christians think is creation they should not teach Evolution. Evolution is no more proven than Creation is. Sure I believe Creation but I don't have any overwealming proof. I think school should teach about the earth, animals, plantlife, oceans and sea creatures but let's keep it to real proven facts and laws of nature. Can we just leave the creationsism and evolution theories out of public schools? If you want to take these courses in college I say go for it. I think to force all kids in elementary and high school to take creationsim or evolution is violating peoples rights. If you teach evolution you are upsetting the Christians. If you teach creationism you are upsetting the non-christians. So don't teach either view.

Actually a growing trend in publice schools is to offer religion course as literature course where they will teach the creation story as a piece of literature. The reason for teaching as an arts class and not a science class is that the evolution theory is a proven theory and is testable whereas the bible is a set of stories put together from the a convention a long time ago...sorry I couldn't find what convention it was, though I do know it was under constantine's rule.

In some public schools in UK and Ireland religious education is compulsery. I guess the reason they don't do it in the USA is because there are people from soo many different religions there that if you teach some religious views but not others many people would get very upset and there will be conflict. For example a Muslim would get much more upset about their child being taught Christian values than their child being taught evolution I'd imagine.

Christianity is for a comparitive religion or philosiphy class. The Theory of Evolution is a scientific theiry and belongs in a science class.
Religion is generally a matter of personal opinion. Science is all about facts and evidence. There's a world of difference.

Because the business of science classes is to teach science, not religion. Even if you believe in creationism, you have to admit that it is not a science.
And honestly, people need to stop setting up Christianity and evolution as polar opposites. Perhaps you would benefit from a good science class...and a decent religion one for that matter.

They do teach the others. I don't know why people think they don't. When I was in high school, they taught evolution, Christianity, and other religions. Evolution was taught in science class, because it is part of science. Old religions were taught in mythology classes. Modern religions were taught in Anthropology classes. I took all three types of classes and therefor was exposed to all in public high school. All were taught in their appropriate subjects.

Because they don't teach religion in school. They could concievable have a comparative religions class, but most don't. Evolution is a scientific theory, and so it is taught in science class. Science class, no matter what other people tell you, is for science. And there is no science to creationism, no matter what other people tell you.

Aside from the U.S. Constitution's separation of church and state? Because school is about learning facts, not opinions.
By the way, do they teach evolution in your church, or do they refuse to teach other "points of view?"

Evolution is SCIENCE while Christianity is a bunch of uncertain mythology that is a very touchy subject. And, in public schools, one IS allowed to teach as much Religion as he/she seems fit. However, one cannot PREACH the relgion. Teaching and preaching are two totally different things.

Because as a society we value freedom of religion. Whether or not a god exists is an individual choice, and isn't something that children should be taught in schools. Evolution should be taught because it is a scientific theory, and a very important one. It's central to an understanding of biology.

Separation of church and state. It is one of the founding principles of our nation. I wonder why they don't teach THAT. Evolution is science. It has nothing to do with religion. If you want to learn about religion, go to church. Our government does not have the authority to force anyone to be taught and graded on their acceptance of a religion. That is what freedom is all about.
