Hello! I was wondering how my fellow Christians would interpret the verse:
Genesis 1:3-5(KJV)
3 And God said, Let there be light: and there was light.
4 And God saw the light, that it was good: and God divided the light from the darkness.
5 And God called the light Day and the darkness he called Night. And the evening and morning were the first day.

I ask because I have recently been told that I have contradicted my fellow Christians because I believe this to say that God created the light, and called it day, and called the dark night. Apparently I am interpreting this in the wrong way! So if I could have your interpretation I would appreciate it! God bless!

This is in response to my question of how I misinterpreted the verses. Apparently I am wrong because I take it for it's literal writing, when everyone else that responded to his question said something about spiritual light.

Message: uhhhh....read the other answers i received from your fellow Christians. It is NOTHING like your answer....TRUTH IS TRUTH! no ands, ifs, or buts about it. There can't be 2, 3, 4, 5, etc sides to the truth. TRUTH IS ONE!

You are right, there is no overt or hidden message in this passage, but people like to make things out to what they wish and you will get a bunch of different opinions on the Bible verses.
My suggestion is to find a Bible commentary, of your religious preference, mine is Catholic and I use the Collegeville and the St. Jerome Commentaries to help me out. There are protestant versions as well and read what the theologians have to say, and then find out what it means to you.
That is what is most important, what it means to you, because it is for you that the scripture was written and for you to find the meaning that best suits you.
God bless and continue your search for truth.

Genesis chapter 1 is the creation of the heaven and earth.
Notice verse 5, And evening and morning were the first day.

These people are confused. If we read the entire chapter of Genesis 1, the whole is talking about creation.

There are other scriptures in the Bible that does mention spiritually that day is a good spirit and night are dark spirits.
But Genesis is clearly talking about creation of physical things.

This could be a literal interpretation, that God created a physical universe that is dark and light. What God commands becomes reality. The Gospel of John mentions that "the light was the life of men" Maybe light is the expression of God. God is the giver of all life, the source. He created that light which illuminates true life, Himself. And that which is not of God is darkness. The devil is the prince of darkness, void of light, void of life.

I do carry to a literal interpretation of Genesis. A literal interpretation does no longer help a youthful earth, in spite of if, if that's what you have become at. once I come for the time of fellow Christians who have self belief in a youthful earth, I neither understand nor pity them; I basically disagree with them and open the floor for communicate.

I read you question, and I am confused as you do not tell us what those that oppose you interperatation are saying to you.

I don't think the passage needs a lot of interperatation, it is plain and blunt facts about the power and majesty of God. That He and He alone can do such a mighty work.

Please add this info and let us know.

God Bless

No, from where I sit, I'd say you have it correct.
I would like to point out that THIS defines the meaning of what the word "day" is in this section of scripture...some people like to say we don't know how long a day was in an effort to cuddle up to the notion of evolution.

There nothing in the text to suggest a spiritual interpretation. You got it right.

This is when God created and seperated the light (day) from dark (night). You are right.
