I wanted to join the military but cannot now, because I have had a spinal fusion surgery for my scoliosis. This information should be a little helpful to you.

Military Medical Standards for Enlistment & Appointment

The disqualifying medical conditions are listed below. The International Classification of Disease (ICD) codes are listed in parentheses following each standard.

c. Complaint of a disease or injury of the spine or sacroiliac joints with or without objective signs that has prevented the individual from successfully following a physically active vocation in civilian life (724) or that is associated with pain referred to the lower extremities, muscular spasm, postural deformities, or limitation of motion.

c. Deviation or curvature of spine (737) from normal alignment, structure, or function if—

(1) It prevents the individual from following a physically active vocation in civilian life.

(2) It interferes with wearing a uniform or military equipment.

(3) It is symptomatic and associated with positive physical finding(s) and demonstrable by x-ray.

(4) There is lumbar scoliosis greater than 20 degrees, thoracic scoliosis greater than 30 degrees, and kyphosis or lordosis greater than 55 degrees when measured by the Cobb method.

d. Fusion, congenital (756.15), involving more than two vertebrae. Any surgical fusion (81.0P) is disqualifying.

I hope this helps you out a little,
Good Luck with your dreams

well im in the Marine Corps. some people are not let in because of medical conditions. but then again it also depends on the type of job(MOS) that u want. ur better off as a paper pusher(at a desk job) than being in all the fighting. u wont be able 2 take it because of ur scoliosis. The Marine Corps is a lil tough when it comes to stuff like this.

If you are diagnosed with scolioisis, that prevents you from being physically tough and fit for fighting. The Marines will not take you if you have this medical condition.

definetly not, remember in highschool when you played sports and they checked you for scoliosis and if you had it you couldent play? well they are alot more strict in the military. When i went to meps theg uy dat i went with cuz he was joining to had a slight case of asthmawhen he was like 7. the docters found out and they didint let him join.so even the slightest thing throws you off. but who knows go anyways the docter might not see it, and ur cleared, dosent hurt to try.

It depends on the dr. who examines you and how bad the condition is.
